In September, my husband and I dined at this one-Michelin-starred cave restaurant in Matera. The simple decor emphasized the stunning cave walls and ceiling. I appreciated the option to choose dishes instead of a set menu, especially as someone without a sweet tooth. The waiter recommended dishes marked with years as their best, and we tried:
- I Dropped an Egg in the Garden (2013)
- Pizza in “Black” (2012)
- Sea Bass in Crusted Black Olives, Occhipinti Beans, and White Chocolate Water with Vinegar (2017)
- Zitoni with Meat Ragu and its Sauce (2010)
- Misery and Nobility (2011)
The dishes were beautifully artistic. Our favorites were the sea bass, with its unique pairing of white chocolate, and the egg with vegetables and chocolate cookie crumble. For two people, the HEART 5-course meal with one wine-pairing and a few additional glasses of wine came to 370 euros. Highly recommend for a one-of-a-kind dining experience in a Matera cave.

Favorite bite was the Shrimp Crudo on Lemon Tagliatelle. From start to finish, service was amazing and the wine selections are vast but not intimidating. Overall fantastic experience and congrats to them on Michelin again.

Of the many starred restaurants I have been to, this remains my favorite, and it is the third time I have gone there. The dishes are all (without exception) delicious and as a Lucanian some flavors really took me back in time. Above all the zitoni, "misery and nobility" and the bread and milk dessert, of an authentic, wonderful, almost touching simplicity. The chef is excellent, the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, the location is beautiful. I can't wait to return

A wonderful evening in a special restaurant. We were here on Sunday evening, decided on the 5-course menu and were happy to put it together ourselves. This meant my wife was able to avoid things that she didn't really like. We chose the tuna tartare, the risotto, the fussilloni, the lamb and the last kiss. Just great! Beautifully prepared and perfectly balanced in taste. The service was perfect, friendly and always present. That's how fun it is! Gluten-free wasn't a problem either, it was quickly defined and bread arrived! Great! Thank you for the great evening

I lived this extraordinary experience thanks to the wedding of my friends Donato and Francesca, in the setting of the magnificent panorama, the Vitantonio restaurant is located like a diamond set among the stones of Matera. A cuisine selected down to the smallest detail, both in the raw materials and in the taste that honors its Michelin star. 🌟

Ambiente semplice ed elegante nella magica atmosfera di un sasso Materano. Servizio impeccabile sapientemente gestito da un Maitre/Sommelier a dir poco fantastico. Il menu' proposto dallo Chef riesce a farti viaggiare nel mondo del gusto facendoti vivere sensazioni piacevoli con una continua esaltazione del palato. Sara' un piacere ritornarci. Credo che consigliarlo a chiunque sia di passaggio a Matera sia il " minimo". Complimenti.

Penso che la scelta dello chef di ispirarsi ai sapori della sua terra, anche solo riproducendone i colori, sia la proposta che ogni ristorante, anche di classe, dovrebbe fare in Italia. Prendere gusti e sapori che non ci appartengono, solo per mostrare il proprio talento, ritengo che sia una scelta destinata a fallire. In questo ristorante gli ingredienti ed i sapori danno vita a piatti di un’eleganza unica.
Tra i tanti, meritano una citazione speciale: Murgia Vista Drone (che idea fantastica), CalaMarro e Monte Krusko. Complimenti!
