Looking through those restaurants with a long-standing reputation, I turned to the Michellin guide and found Vicolo Columbia.
My research was well rewarded in choosing somewhere renowned for traditional and classic dishes associated with the city.
Situated a stones throw from the main square, on a cosy side street, this restaurant is wonderful inside. Relaxed but perfect atmosphere.
Service was superb, and we were made very welcome.
Starting with anti-pasti and local wine similar to prosecco called Pignoletto, the parmesan cheese was exquisite. The frigatto bolognaise is also worth a try.
Our first course of two was pasta. I had the capon broth, and the tagitelli and ragu were also immense.
Second course, the steak was exceptional, with truly outstanding spinach. The roast potatoe was also very tasty. The pumpkin dish my dining partner had was also amazing.
The red wine was also excellent.
Desserts looked fantastic, but we were too full.
This is a superb restaurant with traditional food served to a very high standard.
If you want to taste Bologna, then this is somewhere I would consider.

Maybe because our expectations were higher than they should have been - our maybe simply because we already had a fair comparison on what’s available on Bologna’s culinary scene - but unfortunately our lunch has been simply average. A higher price tag that didn’t translate into a better experience than in cheaper osterias or trattorias, both when it comes to food and service. We ordered a few different dishes — the only two things I’d come back for were lasagna and the steak.

Elegant and welcoming restaurant in the heart of Bologna with refined background music. Friendly and professional service. Delicious food! In particular, I recommend tortellini in parmesan cream, tagliatelle with meat sauce and as a second course, rabbit. Particular note for the rare list of liqueurs and spirits.

We were there last Friday evening. Excellent food and excellent service. From the moment you enter until you leave, everything is perfect. Our waiter Andrea did a wonderful job taking care of us and making suggestions. The tortellini were fantastic, as was the beef cheek, quality and flavour. Thank you! Can't wait for next time.

Wat een heerlijk restaurant is dit. Een verfijnde keuken, professioneel en vriendelijk personeel en een klassieke inrichting. Wij begrijpen de Bib Gourmand vermelding wel!
