Verginiello In Capri

After making friends with a local, who supported the same team as my husband (English football), he recommended Verginiello as a restaurant for us to try. We were travelling with my sister and brother-in-law, and like most seasoned travellers want to hang out with the locals, not the tourists. The restaurant is off the beaten track in Capri, and you can walk past it if you're not looking for it. It overlooks the sea, and is clearly a local restaurant. We were hungry and arrived at a non-Italian time (about 6.30 pm). By the time we left the place was filling fast, so if you prefer a late dinner take note. If you don't speak Italian, you should note that the wait staff don't speak English ... that's fair enough, we're in Italy after all. As a result of not speaking Italian, you can expect waved-down staff for help. The evening we dined, there was one staff member working who spoke a little, and he was needed due to my gluten intolerance. They can accommodate you with pasta and of course chicken, steak, and salad. I ordered a prawn pasta (GF) which arrived with four (4) pathetic prawns. My sister ordered the seafood pasta which looked like the entire ocean had jumped onto her plate. I was irritated that her dish was €20, and because mine wasn't on the menu and when the bill arrived, they must have made up the price because I was charged €38! For four piddly prawns. Talk about a mugging! My husband was over the moon with his €10 pizza covered in french fries ... it certainly looked better than my rip-off dish. And my brother-in-law enjoyed his steak (still mooing) and pizza (entree, small size). Would I dine here again? … maybe. But I'd be careful considering they like to pull prices out of thin air!

The pasta I had was absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere was great as well. If you are looking for a good restaurant in Capri that would not break the bank I would highly recommend this place!

Friendly staff, wonderful location and excellent food!!! I ate a recommended and off-the-menu pasta with lemon and red snapper... spectacular. Compliments!!! A nice memory!!

We went for dinner, although they offer seafood menus, fresh fish, we opted for a pizza as it is a historic place, but we were a little disappointed by the quality of the dough and cooking, under-leavened and overcooked, almost biscuit-like. The internal room with semi-open windows and sea view was hot, we sweated, then with the air conditioning on it cooled down afterwards. Unfortunately I don't recommend it for a pizzeria, but for a restaurant I think it's more suitable, prices are average for Capri.

It's worth going if you're in Capri... excellent quality/price. Very good food and fast and friendly service...

- Pizza was tasty but too watery and thin just made it almost impossible to eat it without dropping some on yourself. - Still a tiny bit expensive for the quality - Service is confusing, staff seems to want to rush you, don't really listen when you speak to them and seems to give weird looks

Nice views. We ordered pasta frutti di mare and it was very hard. It looked homemade but was difficult to eat. A shame because the taste of the dish was good. Correct service but several different waiters asked us about the drink.

Bad service amazing food, all I have to say. The food itself was amazing, we had pizza with pasta, however the service can drastically improve. Our waiter was eating while taking our order, picking up his nose, overall very mean, and my favourite part, the bottle that he brought to the table was full of mud. All the stuff seemed very talkative in between themselves but when it came to the customers not so much. The view was also stunning

I'm always very critical, but in this case I have to give credit to this restaurant. Despite our diet, my wife and I ate really well... In Capri, places where you eat well and spend the right amount are really rare and this is one of those
