Vela Bianca In Sorrento

On holiday at the "il faro" hotel we had dinner twice in this restaurant where we felt pampered and treated with kid gloves in true Sorrento spirit. Compliments to the kitchen and the staff, and in particular to Mr Michele, a true gentleman and innkeeper such as can no longer be found. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Great food, fresh fish and excellent service. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. They have a selection of catch of the day, I had the red snapper. They prepare it with lemon and potatoes, and they clean it tableside. It's €70/kg, the large red snapper I got ended up being €45 . They provided some bread and little 'bread balls" with olive/salami throughout them. They also gave us a free limoncello at the end. They have a free shuttle to the city center. Only unfortunate part about the restaurant is that it's below ground so you can't see the sea or sunset.

Such a warm welcome from Michele despite us not having reserved a table, they rearranged the seating to create a space for us. Lovely meal, something for the whole family. However, the gamberoni alla catalana prawns as a starter are well worth a try!! The millefoglie di filestore di mar zo con pomodoro sorrentino e misticanza.....beef fillet with sorrento tomatoes and salad was a really good sized portion but delicately cut, cooked and presented. If you prefer fish and pasta, then the linguine ai gamberoni flambati al brandy e pomodorini was a lovely linguine with prawns and tomatoes that was just divine. If you stay at the il faro Hotel they also offer a discount on your meal. Would highly recommend as a meal near the marina.

Amazing food. Very high quality. I would recommend the sea food risotto, the quantity and variety of seafood was good and the texture was right on the spot. Additionally, the service was excellent and friendly.

Nice place, somewhat expensive. The waiter was too determined to collect tips.

Felt like going to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. If you don’t know Arthur Avenue, the Italian restaurants gets a mix of regulars and non regulars but all the ones I have been to there treat everyone as if they are a regular. The maitre’d who must be the owner was wonderful and sent ver a few complimentary dishes soon after we sat down. It’s like we have been coming here for ages even though it was our first time. The food was excellent. We can’t remember all the things we had but the spaghetti alla nerano and the pizza were very memorable. The tiramisu had chocolate chips in it which were excellent but be warned that they also make it with alcohol. They are down by the port and the restaurant sent a car pick us up and take us home. Highly recommend. First rate in food and service.
