Trattoria San Giovanni In Gela

I've already eaten here several times, the food is excellent. Advised.

Traditional Sicilian restaurant with horse meat dishes in menu and good selection of local wines. I have never tasted horse meat before, so I had no idea which wine should be the right choice for this meal. Received some good advises from Angelo, the Chief Waiter, and everything was fine. Ordered polpette di cavallo (horse meat balls) con patate al forno (with baked potatoes). Gnocchi con gorgonzola e nocci, paired with a lovely Prosecco, was another delicious dish. Nice dinner, overall, with a shot of Vecchio Amaro on the house. Can't wait to visit the place again.

Good, but nothing earth-shattering.

I have been a customer of Trattoria San Giovanni for years. Due to moving out of the region, I returned to the restaurant after 2 years and found some changes that I didn't like. The food is always plentiful and excellent in terms of quality, we consumed a mixed starter and a first course each. Excellent quality-price ratio. As reported in other reviews, there is no paper menu, justified by direct request as a choice dictated by the changing menu based on the products of the day. In addition to inhibiting the customer's choice since dishes are listed without knowing the price, a menu of the day with relative price is not even displayed so you are not sure how much you are spending and for what. On the contrary, there is a paper wine list. According to Legislative Decree n84 based on European Directive 96/6/EC it is mandatory to indicate the individual prices of the products offered and indicate which ones could be frozen, and display the list of allergens... I hope they resolve this thing as soon as possible because it is too important.

I didn't like at all that I couldn't consult the menu. Okay that there is the menu of the day and that the waitress has listed the courses very well but I also need to be able to see the prices and evaluate. The starters were almost all good but they have lost a bit compared to the past, the first courses were excellent. Bill a little too expensive

We went for a tour of Gela and opted for this restaurant for lunch. Beautiful structure, very well looked after; friendly and helpful staff; dishes with excellent combinations, delicious. Paid the right amount. Optimal

Once the first few minutes of confusion had passed due to the lack of a menu card with relative prices to be consulted calmly (which we are not used to), the rest of the evening was a pleasant surprise, with the abundant and refined courses served in elegant ceramics at a decidedly convenient, not least the attention of the waiter and owner. The only note for the girl in the room, a smile would put the customer at ease as well as enhance the natural beauty of your face.

Ottima esperienza culinaria. Uniche pecche: manca il menù, non sai quanto paghi e bene cosa prendere, cameriere un po inesperto.
