Last night we celebrated my daughter's birthday at this beautiful restaurant. We had a wonderful time; the flavors of each dish were perfectly balanced and the ingredients were incredibly fresh. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the mixed fried fish was delicious. The waiters are excellent and always attentive, and the owner is a very kind person! Thank you for a wonderful evening, and I'll be back very soon!

I was looking for a place to dine near my hotel, and I admit the prices at this place (along with the friendly waiter) lured me in. Only 10€ for pasta!
The place has a wonderful atmosphere, a large collection right on the walls, and each room has its own charm. It's quiet and pleasant. I was offered a menu in English, for which I was grateful. I saw that service was €1.50, which is pretty average (I've been to another restaurant where it was €1), but I figured it wouldn't be a problem for me, even though my budget for this trip was quite limited. The waitress who served me knew many languages and was generally friendly, but immediately turned arrogant. After I ordered one dish, she said I had to buy a drink, and when I honestly admitted I didn't want one, she quickly walked up to the owner, who was sitting in front of me, and asked something in front of me. Since I don't speak Italian, I don't know what they were talking about. Perhaps this gesture was meant to mean "I'm not in charge here, these aren't my rules" or "we respect your wishes and needs and do our best for our guests," but because it was so impatient and hypocritical, it left a bad taste. I think this is an outrageous gesture towards a guest; it kills the establishment's hospitality at its roots, and, in a word, it's unacceptable to me. After all, who cares how many dishes I order or whether I'm a tourist? I didn't come here just to, excuse me, get drunk, but to soak up the atmosphere of your entire establishment.
Afterwards, I felt rather humiliated and had to order a drink, the cheapest of which was water for €1.50. My order was brought quickly, although again with a cold attitude.
The food was excellent. Honestly. It was a wonderful pasta dish, made with very high-quality and fresh ingredients, where the flavors complemented each other perfectly and intertwined. Looking ahead, it was worth the 13€ I ended up paying. A generous portion, a harmonious dish prepared with great skill.
But the bad service didn't allow me to fully enjoy it. Watching the waitress, I saw how she treated guests who ordered large, expensive items and accepted her recommendations more kindly. Although there was a sense of hypocrisy and that I, as a guest, was being treated as nothing more than a wallet with money.
But beyond the negatives, the atmosphere of this place was captivating. I was able to observe the owner's friends arriving and sitting down to dinner together, in the same seats as the other guests. This scene touched me and stayed in my memory; I've never seen anything like it before. I've never seen the owner sit quietly in the establishment, assisting the cooks and talking to the waiters.
So, based on my experience, I'd really like to better understand why this establishment has this policy, as it seems unclear to me and even detracts from the wonderful experience it offers. Why underprice good dishes, make drink orders mandatory, which leads to such unpleasant and confusing situations, and treat guests so strangely? I'd really like to understand better, as perhaps I'm missing something. The only thing I could think of is that they could be luring guests in with low prices, but ultimately you end up paying a higher price and are left in such an ambiguous situation that you're unlikely to return (which is exactly what I did). So I'd really ask you to reconsider this policy, as your food and your atmosphere are truly wonderful, even brilliant in their own way, worth every penny, and it's a shame to see how easily avoidable situations ruin the opportunity to enjoy them 🙏
It's also possible that it was simply a misunderstanding, and I was stuck with a bad waiter, etc. But since I've had this experience and left with such mixed feelings, I can point this out to you and ask you to be more attentive so that as many of your guests as possible have a positive experience! I sincerely wish you well, because you deserve it. I hope to see you again.
