We'd been told it was very down-to-earth, and indeed it is, but if you're looking for a simple, affordable trattoria, this is the place. We had a great dinner and felt right at home. The service was very friendly, even accommodating a vegetarian. There are few dishes to choose from, very simple dishes, and only one dessert, the eggless tiramisu.
It feels like being in a country house garden, somewhat improvised with paper tablecloths, strings of fairy lights from tree to tree, and very simple but delicious dishes. The owner, who does a bit of everything, is truly lovely.

The restaurant is a blast from the past, very unique, where you dine by candlelight. The menu is simple but good, with generous portions, especially with the first courses. The second courses feature excellent grilled meat and vegetables. Vittorio, the owner, chef, and waiter/dishwasher, is simply splendid and always available. The tiramisu is excellent. Very good value for money.

Personally, I love this place and I love Vittorio. I've been going there for over 15 years, and each time has been a unique experience. I won't talk about the quality of the food, the location, or the service; those aren't the reasons I go here and why I'll continue to go as long as I can. 5 stars aren't enough.

Characteristic place, it's true that cleanliness is not its strong point, but if you look carefully, you will notice details that make the place worthy of note, home-made but excellent food, Mr. Vittorio is a force.... this is history that should be protected
