My boyfriend and I ordered gnocco fritto to start, followed by lasagna and tortellini with parmesan cream.
The gnocco with prosciutto was sensational; it was soft and not heavy even when fried. The homemade tortellini were super fresh, and the parmesan cream paired perfectly. The lasagna also tasted just like homemade. For dessert, we had the generic version with mascarpone, which, needless to say, was delicious, just the right amount of sweetness, and you could taste the fresh, handmade mascarpone. Everything was perfect, even the staff was friendly and helpful!

The staff is mostly friendly and speaks English. The food selection isn't huge, but it's more than adequate. I highly recommend the beans with pasta as a first course. Beans with the typical regional sausage, on the other hand, weren't so much of a second course, as they lacked flavor. The beer we ordered was fetched from the pub next door.

Following a minor incident—an accidental spill of amaro that stained a shirt—the restaurant decided, without prompting, with great courtesy, to offer the entire meal for two people. A gesture that was completely unnecessary, but greatly appreciated.

A rare gem.
The food is excellent and the service impeccable.
We had the "polpette di Anna," the spinach and ricotta tortelloni, and the contorni: cabbage, tomatoes, and beans with a spicy sauce. The dishes were perfectly prepared, as were the desserts: tiramisu with a panettone base and panna cotta with Modena balsamic vinegar: delicious😋. The products used are high-quality and everything is homemade, of course.
We were also served a very good focaccia throughout the meal.
Recommended by the guide du routard, it was a very pleasant surprise, especially since the value for money is excellent.
The service was very pleasant and professional.
On vacation in northern Italy for two weeks, this restaurant was my best culinary experience 🫶

A culinary gem: Trattoria Pomposa Al Re Gras in Modena
An evening at Trattoria Pomposa Al Re Gras is a feast for the senses. The menu is deliberately small – and for good reason: Everything here is homemade, fresh, prepared with passion, and to an impressively high standard.
The tortellini alone was an absolute highlight – by far the best I've ever eaten. Perfect pasta, excellent filling, served to perfection. Followed by eggplant meatballs in a wonderfully balanced tomato sauce – a vegetarian dish that tastes absolutely amazing. Simply sensational.
The highlight of the evening was dessert: a tiramisu like I've never experienced before – made with homemade panettone. A creative, aromatic interpretation of the classic that is second to none.
The evening was rounded off by the excellent service. Mr. Francesco was attentive, warm, and full of hospitality. Even though non-alcoholic beer wasn't on the menu, he made it possible—a small detail that says a lot about the quality of this establishment.
A place you have to experience—I'll definitely be back.

Visitado un viernes por la noche, reservamos temprano en el día. Nos sentamos fuera y tuvimos una bonita vista de la iglesia de enfrente. El servicio fue muy amable, sin prisas y muy bueno. La comida era excelente, tuvimos tagliatelle con ragu, lasaña y tortellini en una salsa crema parmesana, todos los cuales eran excelentes. Teníamos varios vinos, por copa, tinto, blanco espumoso y el tinto espumoso, de nuevo todo muy bueno. El tirimasu y el salami de chocolate fueron muy buenos, seguido de café. Esta fue una cena encantadora, y un gran ejemplo de la cocina local. Lo recomendaríamos mucho.
