Trattoria la fornace In Carrara

On the way to Tuscany, we stopped almost by chance at Trattoria La Fornace in Massa, and I must say it turned out to be an interesting discovery, especially for those traveling and needing a hassle-free stop. The restaurant is simple, with the option of dining outside thanks to a practical and quiet terrace. The staff was friendly and helpful, creating a familiar and relaxed atmosphere. The menu offers traditional Tuscan dishes and home cooking, without excess or refinement, but with an overall convincing quality. Among the dishes we tried, the tagliata was truly excellent: tender and well-cooked meat, served with attention. The vegetables, on the other hand, were less memorable, but still passable. What's striking is the quality-price ratio: for a modest outlay, you can eat well, simply, and without surprises. It's a simple trattoria, ideal for those looking for a quick and substantial meal while traveling, without the effort or expense of a more elaborate restaurant. Ultimately, La Fornace isn't a memorable place for its atmosphere or originality, but it's a worthwhile and convenient stop. It's one of those trattorias that never disappoints, thanks to the friendly service and some well-executed dishes.

Convenient, close to the highway exit, friendly staff, and generous, very good portions. A must-try if you're ever in the area again.

We stopped for dinner on our way off the highway. The staff was quick and friendly, and all the dishes were delicious! The prices were fair, and the portions were generous. We tried the testaroli (delicious) for the first time, and the fried foods and ravioli were excellent! The spaghetti allo scoglio was perhaps the least recommended of the dishes we tried, but that's simply because it's easier to find. Highly recommended!

Welcoming service, owner who advises you on dishes, attentive waitress and very good dishes. We ate fish dishes (fresh and abundant). You can see that there is passion in preparing the dishes.

Found by chance, excellent trattoria, express dishes, good fish, seafood risotto and seafood appetizer, excellent service. We will be back.

Attracted by the flattering reviews we dined at the fornace with great satisfaction. Home cooking without too many turns of phrase. Mr. Nello prepared everything at the moment and served each dish in about 20 minutes which we finished in 10 🤣.
