Restaurant with an old-fashioned, rococo decor.
The cuckoo clock chimes every quarter hour.
The food was bland and expensive.
The plain polenta was poorly presented and served with four slices of sausage... nothing special.
No spritz, many items on the menu weren't available, and the set menu wasn't valid on weekends.
It felt like a tourist trap.

Wow! This place is quite the hidden gem!
From the decor to the food and the lovely owner it was all just perfect.
The coniglio, bresato and polenta were fantastic. Also the portions were quite decent and everything was fresh. It’s just like your nonna is cooking.
Also the prices are fair considering the location and the freshness and taste of the food.
Please go and support this lovely family run business!

Historic trattoria. Traditional Bergamo cuisine. Discreet, somewhat homely service (wine is served without tasting first, dishes are brought to the table, leaving portioning to the customer, etc.). The food is very good.

Fantastic place! We ate simple, homemade dishes that were truly DELICIOUS. The staff was very kind and knowledgeable, and the service was incredibly fast. Special praise and many compliments to the chef. A well-deserved five stars.

Trattoria del Teatro is one of those places that truly captures the soul of Bergamo Alta. Historic, welcoming, nestled in the heart of Città Alta, it has been run for years by Signora Adele, an attentive, kind, and always thoughtful hostess. The menu is typical of true trattorias: limited choices, all carefully curated, generous portions, and authentic flavors. Casoncelli, braised beef, polenta, rabbit... dishes cooked with love, just like family. My experience was exactly that: a simple, delicious lunch in a warm, family-friendly atmosphere, where you can eat slowly and immediately feel at ease. A place I recommend to anyone who wants to experience authentic Bergamo cuisine, served with a genuine smile.
