With a prior reservation we were immediately kindly seated. The sparkling Ribola for a welcome was pleasantly fresh and well covered the deliciousness of the local mixed cold cuts and cheeses. This was followed by bread gnocchi with beef goulash and potato gnocchi with bolognese sauce. Both dishes went perfectly with the young Schiopettino, just enough tangy and fresh. At the end, we had a gubana with a glass of grappa. An excellent ending. The service was fast and friendly, and the price was reasonable. I highly recommend a visit.

We were lucky to get a table without a reservation, but I highly recommend making one - you might miss out on this gem of a place and it's definitely not a risk worth taking!
The owner and the staff were kind enough to find a table for us and let us experience Italian hospitality at its finest. Despite our very limited language skills, they were very attentive, checked on us and made sure everything was fine.
The menu features an optimum number of items, mainly traditional meals of the region. I wanted to try frico and loved the dish - a perfect combo of creamy potatoes and crispy cheese crust. We also tried cjalsons and honestly found it hard to decide which dish was better (ultimately coming to a conclusion that it's a tie).
If I'm ever back in Trieste, this place is the one I'm heading to straight away on the first evening ♥️

I found this restaurant by chance, but it was a delight in every way. The food was delicious and tasted fresh. The atmosphere is very welcoming and homey, and Mrs. Mara, who cooks everything herself, makes you feel like you're spending a Sunday with your family. Highly recommended.

Dinner for four: frico, goulash, tripe and polenta, homemade gnocchi, gubana, strudel, vegetable side dishes, refosco, and more. Everything was excellent and served with the care and attention of Mara and her colleague. A restaurant with a long tradition and dishes prepared to perfection. Make sure to book, as they're always busy, especially on weekends.

Many people recommended this place, and it's forbidden to go without a reservation, like we did for lunch. We took the opportunity to book dinner in person. It's always packed because the restaurant is tiny and there are obviously a lot of requests.
What can I say except that the lady is incredibly kind and welcoming, as is the person in charge of serving food.
The food, however, had its ups and downs. The Jota was bland, lukewarm, and not very well made; the bread gnocchi were only okay, but the accompanying goulash was excellent. The rabbit, made with "mother's recipe," was delicious. The Frico was also delicious. It's our taste, obviously.
I think the quality/price ratio, especially considering the location (would it deserve a makeover?), could be better and more trattoria-like, which is what the place seems to be. But if demand is so high, I guess it's right. And the rabbit was top-notch anyway.

This cozy, authentic restaurant is a hidden gem in the area, offering dishes from Trieste and Friuli-Venezia. Mara, the owner, is really friendly and always makes you feel welcome. We sampled the trippe con polenta and gnocchi di patata with ragù, and both were absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend this spot if you're looking to enjoy some authentic local cuisine while visiting Trieste. Thanks Mara!
