Trattoria Coco's In Torino

A trattoria—or rather, Piola—that perfectly reflects Turin's culinary tradition. I have to give it four stars because I didn't find anything exceptional in the dishes I chose, but they leave me wanting to return and try their entire repertoire. Approved, see you next time!

A typical Turin pizzeria with just a few tables and a retro, family-friendly atmosphere. We tried some appetizers, including vitello tonnato, stuffed peppers, primo sale cheese with caramelized onion, and tongue with salsa verde—all quite good.

Cheap and authentic. But they mess up orders, the wait time is way too long, and the decor needs updating or at least cleaning. A mixed experience.

Trattoria Bar Coco's is exactly what you hope to find when searching for authentic, no-frill Piemontese cuisine in Turin. Conveniently located near Piazza Madama Cristina, this charming trattoria delivers on all fronts: exceptional regional dishes, wallet-friendly prices, and that warm, rustic atmosphere that makes you feel like a local. Wooden tables, chairs all different, old postcards on the walls alongside a poster of the Grande Torino, and paper placemats featuring Tex comics. Coco's has been around since 1973 and it shows. After multiple visits, I can confidently say every dish has been outstanding and consistently high quality. The kitchen clearly takes pride in their craft. The Tris Piemontese is a perfect introduction to the region's flavors—featuring peppers with anchovies "al verde," primo sale cheese paired with orange jam, and their signature rabbit prepared tuna-style. The Ravioles della Val Variata al Tomino di Melle con Panna e Noce Moscata, the Risotto con Asparagi e Crescenza, and Gnocchi al Castelmagno all use simple ingredients, when treated with care and passion. The manu changes often, so come often and try something different every time. Open 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM for lunch service; no reservations. Arrive early as this place is popular with the locals. Open for dinner on Friday and Saturday; reservations recommended.

Lunch break at work: Good good.... unfortunately given the crazy turnout, little time to eat and still have to wait for a seat to become free. I really liked the "old Turin piola" atmosphere full of images and posters and with the 60s/70s wooden furniture, with the counter etc etc. Highly recommended. Prices are normal for the area and the quality of the products.

Dopo aver letto il divertissement di Luca Iaccarino "Qualcuno Sta Uccidendo I Più Grandi Cuochi Di Torino" mi ero ripromesso di pranzare alla prima occasione in una piola (le ruspanti trattorie torinesi) tra quelle citate. La scelta è caduta su Coco's (nonostante il nome improbabile) ed è stata all'altezza delle aspettative. L'ambiente è alla buona, molto retro ma autentico, non artefatto: la boiserie alle pareti è interamente ricoperta da vecchie cartoline, fotografie, maglie da calcio ecc. Sui pochi tavolacci ci sono tovagliette di carta con personaggi dei fumetti (Tex, Dylan Dog) clienti abituali della trattoria: un'idea simpatica! Il menu è stampato su fogli A4: vasta la scelta di antipasti, più ridotta quella di primi e secondi. Noi comunque volevamo proprio dedicarci agli antipasti e infatti abbiamo condiviso tre tris (il piemontese, quello del giorno e quello del mese, se ricordo bene) per provare più sapori possibili: dalle specialità piemontesi (vitello tonnato, peperone alle acciughe, giardiniera rossa, insalata capricciosa) al salame cotto alle melanzane e pomodori sott'olio e - imperdibili - tre assaggi di formaggio (paglierina, tomino alla piastra e un primosale freschissimo con una confettura d'arance molto buona). Tutto di qualità, così come il bonet finale. Infine, i prezzi, altra nota positiva: abbiamo speso 40 euro per tre antipasti, una bottiglia di acqua minerale, un dolce e due caffè e il conto non sarebbe aumentato molto se al posto degli antipasti avessimo preso due primi o due secondi. Se vi sembra tanto tenete presente che a Monza per lo stesso prezzo riuscite a ordinare due panini, due birre e una porzione di patatine fritte! Non sorprende che tra i clienti vi fosse una prevalenza di giovani, probabilmente studenti. Unico neo: non è facile trovare parcheggio nei dintorni e non si può prenotare a pranzo (noi siamo stati fortunati e non abbiamo dovuto attendere neanche un secondo perchè si era appena liberato un tavolo). Non conosco altre piole ma consiglio vivamente Coco's (e se non vi fidate di me fidatevi almeno di Luca Iaccarino)
