The Small In Lucca

This seafood restaurant is located in the upper part of Como, far from the traditional lake views, yet still offers a pleasant and authentic experience. The location, overlooking a road and not particularly charming, doesn't help the atmosphere, but it's offset by other decidedly positive aspects. The ingredients are incredibly fresh and prepared with simplicity and honesty, in true osteria style: simple dishes, without any elaborate touches, yet genuine and convincing for this very reason. A cuisine that focuses on substance rather than appearance. The wine cellar is well-stocked and in keeping with the setting, while the rustic, tidy, and warm atmosphere immediately puts you at ease. The service deserves special mention: knowledgeable, attentive, and punctual, truly impeccable and capable of elevating the overall experience. The prices are fair and in line with the offerings. This restaurant is recommended for those who want to eat fresh seafood, without being pretentious but with quality and care.

We ate here on Sunday. We were the only guests. The menu is very concise, with only three main courses. We ordered sea bass for €23. All side dishes cost extra. The food was generally good, albeit expensive. The service was very attentive. However, what was unacceptable was that the sea bass consisted of three small rolls in a little sauce. I would estimate less than 100 grams. In my opinion, that's unacceptable. You can't charge such prices and then offer such minimal portions. That's probably why we were the only guests that evening.

The atmosphere is refined and welcoming, with a limited menu offering limited options. Excellent ingredients, but the price is disproportionate to the quality of the dish. It's a pleasant place for those who prefer to taste rather than eat. The photo shows an example of a complete main course (six meatballs with mayonnaise and mushroom cream?)
