Abbiamo pranzato su consiglio di un amico. Abbiamo preso primi tipici della cucina romana ed erano davvero ottimi. Birra altrettanto. Consigliato vivamente.

Super friendly service, nice environment, very ordinary food, average quality and not particularly tasty. He took bruschetta, cured meats, burgers and chips, finishing with strudel. Impression that the dishes had an 'industrial' base with long shelf life. It's a shame because the idea and management deserve a worthy offer.

In realtà volevamo provare con questi amici la più rinomata e famosa cantina tirolese che è a duecento metri, essendo piena però abbiamo optato per questa. Anche qui i piatti tedeschi sono buoni, servizio veloce e gentilezza da parte del personale. Atmosfera nella parte con i banchi di legno, tipicamente tedesca, birre buone. Unico appunto la Sacher è leggermente diversa da quella tradizionale.

Gasthaus Alter Keller

20/03/2025: I was there for a 40th birthday, welcoming place, friendly staff and very tasty food.
17/03/2025: We decide with a friend to have a bite to eat and this place comes to mind, which many say is worth visiting. So in no time we book a table for lunch. I already know the place (it used to be a German pub) but I hadn't yet had the pleasure of being their guest for lunch. "Their guest" because the owners are affable and kind people who know how to make their customers feel good by making them feel at ease. This preamble is to say that the staff here knows how to work and consequently also how to cook. In fact, food is an expression of the territory, with tasty and quality dishes. We opted for an "aperi-rib" menu consisting of an appetizer of cured meats and cheese, two pasta omelettes, red wine for two and a beautiful one-kg rib-eye, beautifully broiled and cooked to perfection. Needless to say, the meat was tender and really good. I can't give a direct opinion on anything else because our menu didn't include other courses; but I can assure you that the dishes of the neighbors at the table were beautifully plated and looked really tasty. And what was no less important were the portions. Finally a place where even if you get a first course, you will receive a dish of the right proportions and not those "miserable" things that you now see everywhere. Well assorted wine cellar, as well as the selection of meat; matured in a visible cell and from which you can choose your own steak. What can I say? I definitely recommend this place (to which I will return). Thanks to all the staff for delighting us with your cuisine and your hospitality. Ps. Prices more than fair 💯

Cantina Tirolese

20/04/2025: I returned on Easter day (after many years) to this restaurant in the Borgo Pio area (Vatican) which decades ago was a "competitor" of the famous brewery in via della Croce, Piazza di Spagna-via del Babuino area (i.e. the "Viennese brewery" existing in Rome since the 1930s with typical furnishings and deer heads hanging on the wooden walls and then changed management and ... miserably failed in a few years). From what I know, it remains (along with another restaurant nearby) the only historic "Tyrolean" alternative to Rome. We ate 3 rich appetizers of mixed cold cuts and cheeses, two dishes with sausages of various types with potatoes (unfortunately fried and not boiled and flavoured) and sauerkraut and a pork fillet with red cabbage, 1 beer, 1 Cola 1 Sprite, sparkling water, 3 coffees (without dessert) for around 120 euros for 3 people. Attentive service, typical restaurant. I would SAY that 40 EUROS each is an acceptable amount for what is offered.
12/04/2025: Suggestive and particular place. We took cheese fondue and glutton grill (self-service grilled meat). For a place specializing in fondue, it keeps expectations high with tasty and delicious dishes. The bill was also a surprise although slightly high for the product itself but being in Rome and one of the few to offer this specialty it is more than justified. However we spent less than the total we expected.
