Hidden away but worth the visit. We were very late for our reservation but it wasn't as busy as the cafe upstairs. We ordered the snails, the agnotti pasta and the Rossini and foie gras. The snails were a little salty for our liking but both the pasta and the Rossini were excellent quality. Not the cheapest lunch but the service is good as is the food.
I found this restaurant (run by chef Stefano Fanti) quite special looking for something of a good standard but not obvious.
I knew that the atmosphere and the place were full of history because it was located in an ancient building on the first floor near the Circolo dei Lettori of Turin.
Unfortunately, many give it a bad review, confusing it with another bistro in the same building.
I then phoned and the chef himself responded, agreeing with my feeling.
The dishes were very interesting, the service was excellent but not intrusive, the place was delicious, the bill was adequate.
Only piece of advice: review the "deconstructed bicerin" which is absolutely not up to the standard of the rest.
I will happily return

the Circolo dei Lettori of Turin is a fantastic place. A long journey where you can breathe in the passion for books and reading, attend book presentations, meet the authors and share a passion. The palace is one of the most beautiful in Turin and has many historic rooms full of atmosphere. Bar Barney is also excellent for a coffee, a snack or an aperitif. In my opinion one of the riches of Turin that many other cities envy us

Sempre impeccabile
Ci vado da 8 anni e sono sempre stata felice di mangiare in un ambiente suggestivo con piatti superlativi negli ingredienti e nelle presentazioni.
Anche il servizio è inappuntabile, con personale professionale ma
contemporaneamente simpatico, attento e discreto.
In particolare ho apprezzato un nuovo piatto inserito nel menu, i rabaton alessandrini ed il bunet con zabaione molto delicato.
Ottimi i suggerimenti di vini da pasto e dessert.

Al di là della location suggestiva, tra quadri e arredi d’altri tempi, da Stefano Fanti si mangia davvero bene:
- gli agnolotti del ”plin”, farciti a mano ai tre arrosti, sono buonissimi: estremamente saporiti, con un retrogusto vagamente speziato e una tenuta di cottura impeccabile nonostante le dimensioni minute
- il Filetto alla Rossini è prevedibilmente un tripudio di opulenza, con la sua striscia intermedia di foie gras, il tartufo nero generosamente dosato, la salsa al porto e il pan brioche all’albicocca in accompagnamento. Il suo unico scivolone? Ho trovato il foie gras stranamente “tenace” al taglio: difetto curioso, data la proverbiale delicatezza della pietanza
Ottimo pranzo, ad ogni modo: promosso e consigliato.

A unique and special restaurant, in an historical palace. Once seated, you feel the intellectualism all around, with all the portrait paintings. We just tried two dishes and were very nice. Gnocchi with different types of mushrooms in a broth and a duck breast with ruibarb and damascus.
Along with the bread and grissini, and as part of the service, they offered us a beet cold cream with seeds.
Francesca, our host, was courteous and always aware of us.
Nice experience!
