Sosta Sulla Francigena In San gimignano

Well, well, well. How not to be too critical... We remember the restaurant a few years back, when it was getting only top scores, even mentioned in some tourist guides. We were surprised to see 4.0 overall rating. But now, after a few dishes and an hour in, we understand why. It is simply not as good as it was. The food is really nothing special. Pasta ragu was very salty, ravioli rather tasteless, but Carbonara sweet like a pancale with honey. The mixed salad was a mixed green salad with 5 thin slices of tomato. Oh, almost forgot to mention a thin scrub from a carot. Some dishes were very average, some really not good. The service was less attentive than you would expect. On the top of all that, we had a doubtful pleasure of listening to overwhelmingly loud conversations of some tourists behaving like they rented the whole restaurant for themselves. All in all, we were not lucky this time and our adventure with this, formerly excellent restaurant ended for good. Breathtaking view is not sufficient to conclude our experience with more than 3 stars (perhaps out of our sentiment).

My partner and I visited this wonderful place as part of an organised tour, for lunch and wine tasting. I am a tour guide in New Zealand, and take people to many wine tastings and winery lunches. I - and my partner - were incredibly impressed. The wines were delicious, as were the olive oils, balsamic vinegars, and of course, the lunch itself. Mary was our host, and she was exceptional - she would easily get a job with the tour company I work for. The staff were all approachable, attentive, and generous with their pours. I cannot recommend this experience highly enough.

The restaurant's fantastic location with its truly breathtaking view is particularly noteworthy. The ambiance alone makes a visit worthwhile. The food was generally good, although with a few minor flaws. The porcini mushrooms tasted a bit watery, but all the other dishes were very well prepared and delicious. Overall, I would rate the cuisine as good to very good. The unique location and the stunning panorama significantly enhance the overall experience. If the food were improved a little more in the future, the restaurant would be excellent in every respect. Nevertheless, I gladly award it five stars.

Just outside the main entrance to San Gimignano, the last restaurant has a gently breezy terrace—perfect for staying cool... A very good meal; I recommend the wild boar! Highly recommended 👌

The lasagna was just the right amount of salty, delicious! The roasted pork knuckle wasn't too dry, and the skin was slightly crispy. The cheese was also very smooth, and the berry sauce on top was a perfect match.

Very beautiful location, with a panoramic view. The food was mediocre, but the staff was very friendly and fast.

We had dinner in a wonderful setting at the foot of the San Gimignano city walls, overlooking the most beautiful scenery in Tuscany. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. The price was fair for the quality.
