Beautiful site with flamingos, egrets, lizards, butterflies, wildflowers, interesting rocks on the beach, and the industrial archaeology of an old tuna processing plant. Parking was very limited when we went (and the entrance was further inland than Google suggests) but staff were friendly (especially when we came back with armfuls of rubbish we'd found washed up on the beach).

An incredibly beautiful nature reserve where you can relax and enjoy nature. Above all, the view of the many flamingos was great. But the ruins are also beautiful to look at. Unfortunately, the small museum was already closed when we visited at the beginning of April.

The *Vendicari Nature Reserve* is a true paradise for nature and wildlife lovers. Located along the south-eastern coast of Sicily, this oasis of biodiversity offers a unique experience, with breathtaking landscapes ranging from lush vegetation to the crystal-clear waters of the sea.
The reserve is an ideal place for walks immersed in nature, with paths that lead to spectacular lagoons, pristine beaches and ancient structures such as the ruins of the tuna fishery. It is a real refuge for numerous species of migratory birds, making it an unmissable destination for birdwatching enthusiasts.
Visitors can explore the area on foot, by bike or simply relax on the beach, enjoying the tranquility and wild beauty of the place. The sea, with its crystal clear waters, is perfect for a refreshing swim, while the sand dunes offer magnificent views.
The Vendicari Reserve is perfect for those seeking an escape from the daily chaos, immersed in uncontaminated nature and a landscape that fascinates at every corner. A true jewel of Sicily, which deserves to be visited in every season.

Wonderful place. We visited in march and had plenty of water in the lakes. We could watch flamingos and other birds. The old tonnara was also a great place. Nice beach as well.
We were there pretty early, so we had enough space to park our car. If you're coming later in the day, it can be tricky because (at this time of the year) parking is on the side of the street (and it's very small).

I arrived at dawn, the weather was cloudy, however it was fantastic to walk in silence, respecting the route and listening to the sounds of the different birds that pass through these marshes in this period. The flamingos flying above my head was wonderful. A contact with nature that brings you back to the essentials of life. So much so that it needs to be repeated because it's different every time.

WARNING!!! BURGLARS IN THE AREA!!! DON’T LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR!
If come by car and park outside the entrance or parking area, you risk having your car opened and your belongings stolen. Fortunately I read a similar comment before arriving and I took most valuables with us, but my boyfriend forgot his work phone in the car and it was stolen. When we returned to the car, our backpacks had all the zipper open as they’ve been searched and the phone missing.
The place is truly beautiful, but it’s a pity this happens. I understand this is a known thing and police are aware as people have filed police reports before, but they can’t or don’t want to do anything. Perhaps the park security is also involved as they claim they see nothing. Be careful.

Saw so many flamingos, spoonbill, stilt, egrets, what a treat. Lovely serene surroundings. No crowds, parking would be a bit difficult if it was busier in the season I imagine

The Vendettari reserve is one of the first three Sicilian reserves. It was created to protect coastal marshes and dunes. Its position and its particular microclimate have made it a real hotel for over 250 species of birds.
But its history goes back centuries. Greeks, Arabs, Byzantines, Swabians and Spaniards passed through here, leaving numerous testimonies including catacombs, ancient towers and churches, tuna fisheries, Latomie and other archaeological remains.
All in a place of extraordinary biodiversity.
But its uniqueness does not stop here, in fact if you stop by the sea you will fill your lungs with pure oxygen. In the seabed of the reserve there are 25 km of posidonia, an extraordinary plant (because it is a plant and not an algae) that releases 15 L of oxygen for every m² of extension. You will breathe better than on the peaks of Trentino.
Among the most beautiful beaches in Sicily, endemic plants, extraordinary nature, hundreds of animal and plant species. And then a dive into crystal clear water with many species of fish.
To be visited in every season with respect and an open gaze to wonder.
