My wife, my two children, and I had dinner at Santopalato on a Monday evening. The welcome was both unusual and honest: before seating us, they invited us to read the menu to make sure their offerings would meet our tastes. A perfect choice that immediately made it clear that this isn't just a "normal" restaurant, but a place with a strong identity. The setting appears simple at first glance, but it's actually meticulously crafted, extremely clean, and tidy. The real showpiece, however, is the kitchen: entirely visible and positioned right in the middle of the room. This element draws you into the experience even before you begin eating. We were on a true journey of flavors. We started with a fresh appetizer of monk's beard and raw tuna, accompanied by a local salami that was nothing short of stellar. But it's the meats that really show off the restaurant: we sampled a delicious, buttery tongue, an exceptional asado, and a textbook pork belly, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. To drink, in addition to water, we paired our meal with an excellent bottle from the local Montelio winery (€25). To round things off, the desserts (strictly made by the chef and of incredible quality): a panna cotta with berry jam and a phenomenal tiramisu, served tableside with hot coffee poured over it. The service was top-notch. The chef himself served us and explained each course, engaging us and even showing my daughter the steps of the preparation behind the stove. His attention and passion truly make the difference. The final bill was €168 for four. After including the bottle of wine, the food came to around €35 ​​per person. The quality-price ratio is perfectly in line with the excellence of the ingredients, the meticulous preparation, and the generous portions (we left the table feeling quite full). Highly recommended for those looking for more than just a meal, but a true experience.

One of the best restaurants I've found in the area since living in Oltrepo. Chef Massimiliano Farina has created something rare: a cuisine that respects local tradition but takes it to a whole new level, with technique and personality. The strong point is the low-temperature cooking, which produces meats with a texture and succulence that are hard to find elsewhere. The menu changes regularly, but the quality remains consistently high; I've returned several times and have NEVER been disappointed. The wine list is also excellent, carefully curated and consistent with the local area. The open kitchen isn't just an aesthetic detail: it allows you to chat with the chef, who personally presents the dishes and explains the ingredients and techniques with genuine passion. It transforms dinner into something more than just a simple meal. The atmosphere is refined and intimate, the service attentive without being formal. The quality-price ratio is fair for the quality offered. Highly recommended for those seeking serious cuisine in an area where it's hard to find.

A restaurant with a poor quality-price ratio; the quality of the food doesn't reflect the excessively high price tag. The menu offers limited choice and variety; the chef is open to making changes, but without deviating too far from the basic offerings. Regarding the cover charge, I think €3 for lunch on a retro-style Formica table with a paper placemat and two slices of bread isn't in line with other cheaper establishments.

Excellent gourmet cuisine in the center of Casteggio. The restaurant is easy to find and has plenty of parking. Inside, the atmosphere is warm and intimate, yet not overly formal. There are just a few tables, and guests are served and pampered with the utmost care. Chef Farina personally takes care of presenting the menu to the table, with patience and dedication. Here, you can try traditional dishes revisited and/or presented in a new way, as well as Japanese-inspired fusion dishes, accompanied by the finest Oltrepo wines. I've eaten here at least four times in the last few years and have never been disappointed. Highly recommended! We went to this restaurant for the first time, and after reading the good reviews, I wanted to try it. We entered and were greeted by the chef, who explained the menu to us verbally. The waiter was very young and inexperienced (it was his first time serving) and was a bit awkward. We ate excellent quality food, although I must say the portions were a bit small for the price. I'm not a big eater, so I enjoyed it, but my companions left still hungry.

We stumbled upon it by chance, due to a reservation error, and I was glad for that mistake, because otherwise I wouldn't have discovered this place. The chef explains his dishes and prepares them with all his passion, using excellent ingredients. You'll find unique and diverse dishes, and this probably makes it not for everyone, but for those who want to discover more. Everything is done slowly; the chef tends to just a few tables, which makes for a calm, relaxed, and quiet atmosphere. Having a Christmas dinner with friends, being able to chat calmly without hearing the stories coming from other tables, is a precious thing. Go there, you won't regret it.
