They are not three derogatory stars but a good evaluation of a family-run mountain environment, nothing to do with starred stuff or great chefs, but the food is good and they are approachable.

Guys, with all the good I can wish for you and your animals, but today your sheepdogs attacked me three times (once on the way out on the path towards the mouth of the balloon, once on the way back and once near the car). It wasn't long before one of them bit my calf. I had to scream to make them go away and luckily I scared them more by yelling at them. It is not possible for a hiker or any other person/family who approaches or stays at the refuge to find themselves in a dangerous situation because of your dogs. Either there is a shepherd who keeps an eye on them or we need education not to attack the man if he passes near the flock.

After trekking in the surrounding area, we stopped to eat something and were able to appreciate the environment which is very reminiscent of a farm: there are in fact many animals, even free to roam around the estate. It will be inevitable to encounter dogs, cats, geese, ducks, cows, donkeys, etc., and even a fawn, probably an orphan, was growing up. The cuisine is carried out by young people, with an excellent quality-price ratio: we took a sandwich (still of considerable size, made with "real" bread and not with the one in the box) with ham and pecorino of truly goodness remarkable for 6 euros. The prices for cappuccinos, chocolates and other drinks are also good. We will definitely be back to have a real lunch or dinner: we are sure that everything will be excellent at a fair price. The photos published are also related to the trekking we carried out, starting right from the refuge, reaching the top after about an hour.

Excellent quality genuine food, made by them, from cheese, jam, cold cuts, kind courteous owner, it's like a fairytale farm, you can stay overnight either with a sleeping bag or sheets provided by them, I recommend... we'll return

Whenever I spend time at Matanna I always feel at home. The family that runs it is always kind and hospitable.

Beautiful particular refuge excursion

Italian Alpine Club hut and at the same time 'animal shelter' - beautiful hikes can be started from here, including, if you're lucky, a herd of wild horses. Food and drinks are available in the building at fair prices.
