It was a real pleasure to find this restaurant in the hills south of Bologna. From the start, Chef Andrea and his staff offered warm hospitality and simple explanations of their regional dishes.
Between the salami dish, the tortellini in brodo, and the maccherone al ragù bianco dish, I really appreciated the mix of creativity and tradition with a light touch.
Coming from Australia and living in Italy for years, I have been fortunate to have eaten good food all over Italy and beyond. Antica Trattoria La Grotta 1918 is truly a place to visit,
and I will be returning with friends and family in the future.

We had dinner at this restaurant on Saturday 8 February, intrigued by the numerous positive reviews and the Michelin Bib Gourmand badge.
What can I say, chef Andrea Funi and all his staff reserve special attention for all customers. The chef, who is very present in the room, describes dishes, raw materials and preparations with commendable dedication.
The dishes are simple traditional dishes but executed to perfection.
We also returned for the Sunday lunch service, thanks to the chef who found us a table even though the restaurant was fully booked. In doing so we also tried other dishes including the fresh pasta rigorously rolled with a rolling pin by Mrs. Elena. Exceptional.
Excellent value for money. Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience in this retro restaurant.
Even though they were on holiday, the staff had already been there the day before carefully preparing every detail for the opening, and to make matters worse they welcomed and served us without worrying about the fact that we were the only customers.
They go beyond just work. It is a true passion, Chef Andrea Funi told us the history, the study, the art and the search for perfection behind every single dish.
Magical atmosphere.
Highly recommended...

Allergico ai cenoni ho scelto l'antica trattoria La Grotta dello chef Andrea Funi figlio della mitica Signora Bruna che in occasione dell'ultimo dell'anno offre una cena alla carta. Conosco questa realtà da 30 anni ed è una assoluta garanzia. Passiamo alla cena, accolti con gentilezza dallo chef che ci ha fatto accomodare in un comodo tavolo e dopo averci dato il tempo di consultare il menù ci ha raggiunti per spiegarci i piatti che avevamo scelto. Per iniziare cuori di carciofi a seguire un piatto di pasta detta 55 righe con ragù di ragaglie e strette con trombette poi fritto misto dolce e salato, maialino cotto a bassa temperatura e roast beef tiepido al sapore di lavanda e tartufo, abbiamo concluso con dolci, torta di riso, funino o bombardino, torta della nonna e sorbetto ai cachi e marroni tutto speciale. Abbiamo provato anche il vino ad alcol 0 per noi assoluta novità. È stata una splendida serata

If you arrive at Mongardino Grotte you will find a small church on the right but before crossing the threshold of the Antica Trattoria la Grotta dal 1918 restaurant which is located right in front, you must not dedicate yourself to any saint; upon entering the restaurant you are warmly welcomed by Andrea, chef for four generations and his team; professionalism, passion, search for the quality of ingredients at all costs. An impeccable service, a true orchestra led by Andrea, who aims to intrigue diners by presenting his creations that do not disappoint: from the "pure Emilia" appetizers, the crunchy cardetti, the tortellini in capon broth, the narrows with trumpets, to the second courses sautéed veal with free-range chicken and refined and tasty desserts. We will return to Andrea's Cave also to savor his welcome again.

Very good food and service. The owner and chef, Andrea, welcomes you into his home, a very pleasant and spacious place, surrounded by windows. He explains the entire menu to you in a very personalized (takes into account your intolerances) and appetizing way. We were salivating before we started. And, when the food arrived on the table, it did not disappoint. Great experience to get to know Bolognese cuisine, surrounded by nature. A destination place, without a doubt. Thank you!!

My boyfriend and I went for lunch today and we had a wonderful time, a delicious lunch. We ate very well: tortellini in capon broth worthy of an Oscar (the best plate of tortellini I have ever eaten, delicious capon broth), narrow tagliatelle with mushrooms, grilled free-range chicken and delicious potatoes, and excellent desserts. A note of merit for the service: all the professional staff and chef Andrea who with his kindness pampered us and always made us feel at ease. A place to return to!

Comida y servicio muy buena. El propietario y cocinero Andrea, te recibe en su casa, un local muy agradable y espacioso, rodeado de ventanales. Te explica todo el menú de una forma muy personalizada(tiene en cuenta tus intolerancias) y apetitosa. Estábamos salivando antes de empezar. Y, cuando la comida llegó a la mesa, no defraudó. Genial experiencia para conocer la cocina Boloñesa, rodeados de naturaleza. Un lugar de destino, sin duda. Gracias!!
