08/03/2026: The place is nice, but they've overdone it with the closeness and smallness of the tables... it feels like a fast food restaurant, not a restaurant with a kitchen.
The pumpkin tortelli are good, but they're more like dessert ones because they buy the super sweet ones that are larger than the traditional ones. (But they're the same ones that cover all the restaurants downtown anyway.)
It's a good thing they serve more of them than in Piazza Erbe...like 6 pieces, here 11. Although I prefer the classic pumpkin tortelli recipe with butter and sage. Even better with red wine and white truffle... they could use that 🤪
I also preferred the Mantuan rice made the traditional way; here it's too dry for my taste, overcooked. Try it at the rice fair on Isola della Scala. But since you're catering to tourists, and we're in Mantua, make it up to par.
Instead, they should process the chocolate and pear cake more or remove it... once I ate it dry and the other time raw... I think they should change the type of dessert... it's better to serve the typical Mantuan desserts made by the bakery next door...
I can say they only provide top-notch service because Andrea, the head waiter, is here. I think people only come here because of him... if he were to leave, they'd lose the local Mantua clientele who already undervalue the place due to its fame... it works because it's downtown and there are tourists passing through.
Because the other elderly Sicilian lady was acting strangely, standing outside and saying it wasn't her job to bring drinks, bread, etc., and she doesn't know the dishes or wines... who knows what merits she's here for? But even though her job is to seat people, she does it in a disorganized way. She says "sit down," but then people stand around trying to figure out what they're talking about... until the head waiter seats them... and she's looking at her phone instead...
Shocked 🤐😒 and even says at the entrance, "Come eat at my place." Maybe the owner... I don't know.
If the place brings in profit, take care of the staff, be honest, polite, kind... if people don't come back, the profit doesn't come... logic is logic.
03/03/2026: My partner and I went for dinner on a Monday night. We have to highlight Andree's excellent service! He was very attentive and friendly, played music according to our tastes, and gave us great recommendations. The food was good, could be improved, but good nonetheless. We will definitely return, especially because of the excellent service!
