Mandrake is a plant that's extremely toxic to humans. This restaurant, however, contrary to its name, offers dishes of great flavor and exquisite craftsmanship.
I began my dining experience here with the classic finocchiona, which I normally don't finish because I find it very fatty; but with the one offered by La Mandragola, I would have gladly had a second helping (and that says it all!)
I then continued with a soup of "vegetables, farro, and beans," which was exquisite as well as delicate, so much so that I didn't feel any of the heaviness that often occurs with this type of dish.
A place of informal elegance, warm, welcoming, immaculately clean, and with a wonderful garden where, in the warmer months, not only the materiality of "taste" but also the spirituality of "sight" are satisfied.
Efficient and professional wait staff; more than decent wine list.

Passing through San Gimignano, I dined at La Mandragola; a beautifully curated and warm restaurant, with its colors and furnishings. There's a wide selection of food and drinks; I limited myself to two courses, but browsing the menu, I was tempted to try everything. The appetizer was excellent, and the tagliata steak was sublime. Andrea, the owner, is very attentive and thoughtful. The price was definitely reasonable considering the quantity and quality of the ingredients. What can I say? It's definitely worth a try!

A truly charming place, meticulously maintained and very intimate, with soft background music.
It's a quality restaurant where the food is excellent, with carefully presented dishes. The prices are in line with the restaurant's character, so they're certainly not among the cheapest.
I would have appreciated some good olive oil to drizzle on the traditional Tuscan bread they serve, given that it's a local product.

Between 4.1 and 4.5 stars for the presentation of the dishes observed on other diners' tables. Furthermore, the plates arrived in the waiter's hands practically empty. We ordered a cheese board, as pictured, which came with honey and caramelized onion to create the delicious contrast that honey provides with pecorino, for example. I also requested some nuts separately, which I felt were necessary on the board, and they happily provided them. However, I did miss having some kind of sauce or red fruit jam.
The wine here in Tuscany never disappoints, and while Chianti is the classic choice, here the white wines, especially those from the Vernaccia grape in San Gimignano, are a delight. At Mandragola, they have a wide variety, not only from San Gimignano but from all over Tuscany. Their staff is knowledgeable about the local products, which makes the wine pairing experience even better. They have excellent local products for dressings and the atmosphere is very welcoming, making you feel like you're in the dining room of a typical Tuscan house.

We had dinner at La Mandragola and it was wonderful. The ambience was nice, servers were friendly and ready to advise and the food was good too. We had the florentine steak which we feel was the best out of all the florentine steaks we have eaten on our Tuscany road trip! The ribbon noodles with saffron sauce and Tuscan cinta sense pork ragout was yummy too! My husband and I were sharing everything and they kindly help to plate 1 portion into 2 plates when serving which was a nice touch.

A VERY GOOD RESTAURANT
Excellent welcome. Professional and attentive service. Lovely terrace away from the crowds. The dishes are high-quality, original, sophisticated, generous, and well-presented. A real treat!
