Why choose Sottomarino? There's no single answer. You have to start from the beginning: the welcome. The owners and staff know how to make you feel at ease, they listen and accommodate your requests, and they all have a smile and impeccable demeanor. The location: fantastic: you're faced with an incredible view, everything is taken care of down to the smallest detail (including the small vase of fresh flowers and, in the evening, the designer lamp), the furnishings, the background music... Everything is designed to make you feel immersed in beauty.
Finally (but I should have mentioned this right away), the cuisine is top-notch. I can't single out one dish in particular: everything is a true explosion of flavor! We choose a different dish each time, and we've never been disappointed.
In short, if you're passing through Follonica, I highly recommend enjoying an unforgettable experience at Sottomarino.

There's little to say about Sottomarino: the fish is always fresh, the staff are incredibly friendly, and what a view! We've been going there for years now, and even now, with a little girl, the menu is accessible to everyone! Even the raw fish is top-notch!

Excellent experience. If you're passing through Follonica, I highly recommend it. Delicate dishes and truly interesting flavors. Reasonable prices for the restaurant's quality. I recommend making a reservation and trying the skate ravioli, tuna alla filippo, and raspberries for dessert.

After two fantastic visits last year, we had been looking forward for months to returning to Il Sottomarino on May 16th, 2026. And somehow, against all logic, it was even better. Apparently mediocrity is treated there like a personal insult. Rare these days.
The baccalà croquette was perfectly crispy on the outside and wonderfully creamy inside. Then came the catch of the day, filleted at the table and served with potatoes, olives, and cherry tomatoes. Pure simplicity, but executed exactly as it should be: outstanding fresh ingredients, perfect cooking, and no unnecessary circus on the plate. A refreshing change in a world where some chefs think foam and edible flowers automatically equal fine dining.
And then dessert: the chocolate tower with zabaglione. Without exaggeration, the best zabaglione I have ever tasted. Silky smooth, perfectly balanced, and dangerously addictive. All accompanied by a delicious local Vermentino. Yummie.
Friendly service, outstanding quality, and a kitchen that truly respects its ingredients. If you are in Follonica and skip this restaurant, you are actively making poor life decisions.

Excellent ingredients (fish and shellfish) are lovingly prepared by the chef, ensuring harmonious combinations and flavors. The service is welcoming, attentive, and always present, yet never intrusive. The quality/price ratio is also excellent.
All this overlooking the sea of the spectacular Tuscan archipelago.

Dinner with friends, escaping the city. We looked for a seafood restaurant and found Il Sottomarino: a unique experience. The waiters were super kind, polite, and professional; we felt worthy of their great attention (even down to the smallest details). We decided to each have a first course and share a fried fish for the second course, all preceded by a delicious complimentary entrée. The dishes were superb, truly delicate yet out of this world. The desserts were fabulous; for someone who loves dark chocolate but not the "sweetest sweet," I found mine enchanting. All accompanied by a delicious bottle of wine, while watching the sunset over the sea on the outdoor veranda. At one point, they noticed we'd put our jackets back on and turned on a heat lamp for us. This is truly the attention to detail that makes the experience complete. The final bill was around €50 each, and honestly, I would have spent even more. Highly recommended!!!
