13/08/2025: We had a truly wonderful time! They seated us and served us immediately, with kindness and professionalism. The young man who looked after us was not only attentive but also friendly, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The food was excellent, carefully prepared and authentically flavored. The location, in the heart of Macerata, is simply unbeatable. A well-deserved five stars! Greetings from Turin 👋🏻

26/07/2025: Today we're founding the ERA Italy (Extensive Reading Association Italy), and yesterday Michael Lacey Freeman took me to the historic center of Macerata: a medieval university city famous for its opera. We stopped for lunch in Piazza della Libertà at the Bar Centrale. The recommended white wine was excellent: Baccius, a wine from Macerata. It's a shame it was a 2023 vintage instead of a 2024. We ordered Ascoli olives, which were disappointing: too hard and the filling dry. The gnocchi with duck ragù and duck bones were excellent (I've been told the flavor is better with the latter!). Michael instead ordered Vincisguerra, the local version of lasagna—also exceptional. We finished with espresso and Varnelli, the local aniseed liqueur. A lovely, convivial evening sitting at a table in Macerata's beautiful piazza, where I met Michael, the writer and future President of ERA Italy.
