To admire the lake, head to the pass. The starting point is the village of Monno, following the road signs.
The trek begins by following the unpaved road, continuing along the trail, crossing the Roman bridge (also called Charlemagne's bridge, according to legend, because he built it), and entering the forest to reach the lake and the refuge of the same name. Upon arriving, you'll find Cima Varadega and Monte Pagano. The route is also suitable in winter (snowshoes) and for families.
At the refuge, you can enjoy excellent traditional cuisine and relax in the hammocks.

Alternatively, you can drive over the Mortirolo Pass, but you'll need to ask for a parking permit.

My heart's refuge. Beautifully managed restaurant, food that's excellent is an understatement. A gem overlooking Lake Mortirolo. A spectacular experience in every way. Highly recommended.

It's a shame the managers closed down. It's a shame they were very good...

We returned to this wonderful refuge again this year. The place is beautiful, but above all, the welcome is special, and the dishes are delicious and carefully prepared. Even a sandwich is a tasty experience. We regretfully say goodbye to the current managers, but we wish them a good life and, at least for a while, a good rest! Your loyal customers in Forlì, Claudia and Giovanni!

Unfortunately, good stories end, but I wonder why???
We've known the refuge for a few years. We enjoy hiking in those parts. We've eaten and slept there with family and friends, and everyone has always been happy with the food, which, besides being delicious, was plentiful and meticulously prepared. The place has a warm touch, and the staff are excellent in managing it and very welcoming. We're all sorry; for us, it was a place close to our hearts.
I can only hope for a change of heart, but if not, I wish you a good life and the wonderful moments you've given us.
