Ristorante Da Nello In Bologna

We spent three days in Bologna and ate at several restaurants. But this one topped them all. Highly recommended.

Stepping into da Nello al Montegrappa feels like crossing into a rustic kitchen somewhere in Emilia-Romagna—warm, inviting, and filled with the aroma of simmering sauces and freshly rolled pasta. This charming Italian eatery sets itself apart with a commitment to handmade pasta, and the difference is clear from the first bite. The meal began with a basket of warm focaccia and a delicate olive oil infused with rosemary. But the true highlight came with the primi piatti. The tagliatelle al ragù was nothing short of exceptional: silky ribbons of pasta with just the right bite, cradling a slow-cooked meat sauce that was both rich and nuanced. Even more impressive were the tortellini in brodo, delicate little pockets of meat-filled perfection swimming in a golden, clear broth that tasted like it had simmered all day. Each dish spoke of tradition and technique. The pasta was unmistakably fresh—light, tender, and beautifully balanced against its sauces. The chefs clearly respect the craft, treating each ingredient with care and purpose. Service was attentive and warm, and the ambiance struck that ideal balance between elegance and comfort. The wine list leaned Italian, with thoughtful pairings suggested by staff who truly knew their offerings. In a world of shortcuts, da Nello al Montegrappa reminds us of the beauty of doing things the right way. Handmade pasta, prepared with passion—this is Italian dining at its finest.

Historic place full of paintings of famous people who have been to dinner. We were in the underground part where we ate parmesan, mortadella, fried vegetables as an appetizer. An encore of first courses (pity that the tortellini were a bit small because they were delicious!!!), and a second course of meat with side dishes. Attentive and precise service.

As a hospitality worker, I have a lot of empathy, but unfortunately I didn't faint at all. We went to the opening, with a reservation, regardless of this, we would have been seated right away in the basement, when the terrace was more than 80% empty. When I mentioned that we would stay for a maximum of 1 hour and that we would rather enjoy the good time on the terrace, we finally got a place outside. By the time we left, the terrace was not even half full. The bologna tasted great, but it was cold and the portion was small. The server did his job on autopilot with 0 smiles. Unfortunately, it was an absolutely forgettable experience.

Everything perfect, starting from the starter to the bitters. Service for 10. I highly recommend the Bolognese cutlet, a spectacle, not to mention the lasagna and gramigna with sausage. The bill is a little higher than average, but as they say, you pay for quality.

Obviously the dishes are delicious! Traditional cuisine, classic recipes. Cozy environment. Prices agreed at restaurant level. The inside is more beautiful than the outside. The staff very kind. You can get there easily on foot or by bus.

Hemos estado en este restaurante dos veces. Una vez a mitad de semana (no demasiado ocupado) y luego un sábado con una cola de espera extrema. Definitivamente hacer reservas los fines de semana o noches. El servicio fue consistentemente fantástico. Giuseppe fue nuestro camarero en ambas ocasiones, siempre fue atento, amable y da las mejores recomendaciones. La comida es increíble. No tuvimos nada que nos decepcionara. Los precios son muy razonables, en realidad excelente para la calidad del servicio, la comida y el ambiente. Este es un “no te pierdas” cuando estés en Bolonia.
