Rifugio San Sebastiano In La valle agordina

Our group stayed at Refugio San Sebastiano on the seventh night of our trek on the AV1 in the Dolomites. It was another long and partially wet day; and the final, downhill leg was muddy & slippery. (Needless to say, we left our boots outside the front door, to clean up later). Inside we arrived to a warm, convivial greeting at the front bar, where the charming owner served us cocktails. (He spoke only Italian, but one person in our group did too - and those two hit it off quickly!). Dinner was simple, but very good. The owner's wife was the cook; and we were asked to pick from a short list while we enjoyed our cocktails. After dinner, some of us chose to sit by the antique, central fireplace, which the owner kept on a slow but steady burn. (Sadly I did not take a photo). It was perfect with a nightcap and stories from the trail. Rifugio San Sebastiano did not have the best location - It was on a road, with limited views of the surrounding mountains. But their hospitality really won us over. We had two days left on the AV1, but sadly this would be the last Rifugio stay on our trek - our next two nights would be spent in a hotel in Belluno. Rifugio Summary: - Setting: On main road at a pass in the mountains (adjacent to another Rifugio) - Rooms/dorms: Average. Somewhat spartan - Food: Good - Free Potable water: Yes - Wi-fi: Good

We stayed here on our AV1 hike. The owner was very helpful and responded well to our request for separate rooms. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Dinner was fairly good for rifugio dining, although breakfast was somewhat lacking.
