Ranzani13 In Bologna

One of the best pizza I ever ate!

I knew about this place, but I'd never noticed it while driving along Via Ranzani. They later explained to me that it's not directly visible from the street because it's located at the back of the street. So we reached "Ranzani 13" on a Thursday evening. Even though it's not a "peak" night, the place is packed, and we're told we'll have to wait about twenty minutes for a table. So we settle down on a sofa and sip a glass of wine while waiting for a table to become available. The menu is mostly pizza-based, but there are also a few appetizers and desserts. The pizza is quite thick and soft... but I opt for cacio e pepe potatoes and a hamburger. The cacio e pepe potatoes arrive... too bad they're brought to the next table (who rightly start eating them, thinking they're free appetizers) and we're only served ketchup and mayonnaise. We point out the mistake to the staff, who, as they're about to move the already-opened basket to our table, realize their gaffe and say, "Then I'll leave them here and have the kitchen bring you more" (thank goodness!!!). When they finally arrive at our table, I have to say they're truly excellent. Once they're finished, they bring me the burger, which I'd specifically ordered without bun, sandwiched between two large slices of bread... Maybe a candid camera? No...unfortunately, pure inattention and nothing more. We also order another glass of wine and a beer, which arrive after about ten minutes...

Good quality, but ridiculous portions and overpriced...at the end of the meal, a bitter liqueur as big as a dressmaker's thimble...embarrassing. The bill was "Bolognese," meaning very high. The owners are right, because in Bologna, customers pay the same...never again.

The restaurant is beautiful, the food is delicious, but what we liked most was the pizza—it was truly spectacular! That, and the service from the staff, especially the girl at the counter, made us feel very welcome every time we visited during our short stay in Bologna. Thank you for a very special place that will remain in our memories!

I went to this place on a recommendation from my girlfriend (she'd been here a couple of years ago). She'd raved about it, and I have to say, it's certainly not disappointing. Despite the years, the place still offers excellent quality products and impeccable service for the price. The waiters Francesco and Martina are super smart and friendly!
