The Pizza You Don't Expect
Perhaps no food like pizza, given its universal popularity, lends itself to so many interpretations of preparations that meet the most diverse tastes in different parts of the world, with results that, unfortunately, in some cases have little in common with it.
However, if we acknowledge the origins that have made it the most famous and appreciated—and I would add, flavorful—in the world, namely Naples and Neapolitan pizza, then we have a clear idea of the characteristics that allow us to carefully select and recognize it anywhere, even hundreds or thousands of kilometers from its birthplace.
This is what happened on a warm summer evening in Desenzano del Garda, the land of good wine, DOP extra virgin olive oil, lake fish, and plenty of relaxing time on the shores of Lake Garda, at the pizzeria "San Benedetto."
A small pizzeria, facing the street with limited parking, but so much heart that at times it seems to transport you straight to beautiful Naples.
But now, let's get straight to the technical notes with the usual ratings: Setting, Process, Ingredients, Service, and Prices.
Setting 7 1/2
As soon as you enter the restaurant, you're immediately catapulted into a warm atmosphere dictated by the cooking area with an open wood-fired oven that welcomes you.
The unique, intimate, rustic atmosphere of a trattoria-rosticceria, with chairs and small tables made of light wood in various colors, and the option of outdoor seating near the entrance.
Excellent for families or small groups.
Process 8
The production process, the specifications, follow a contemporary, high-hydration approach, resulting in a dough with a dry 30-35cm disc, perfect for even the most sophisticated toppings, with a 2cm-wide crust, pronounced air pockets, and a noticeable gluten network. Furthermore, the addition of semolina flour gives it just the right amount of crunchiness on the surface, resulting in a brownish color and excellent flavor.
Ingredients 7 1/2
Regarding the ingredients, a distinction must be made between those that are excellent for the dough (water, flour, yeast, oil), and those that are excellent, given the location, for the toppings. These remain excellent in texture (visually) but lose a bit in flavor, especially the mozzarella and tomato, when compared to those of the excellent Campanian restaurants.
Service 7 1/2
The table setting is a paper placemat in the cuoppo style, a classic white napkin, and old-fashioned cutlery—in short, the essentials.
The service is quite fast and flawless, aided by constant and dedicated coordination without any particular noteworthy remarks.
Prices 8
It deserves a good rating, for its excellent quality-price ratio, also considering the location, with a range that ranges from €5.50 for an excellent marinara to €12 for those with more intense toppings.
Overall rating: 7.5
Choice: Margherita DOP, classic Margherita, and 4 cheeses.
Final thoughts: This is a rustic-traditional pizzeria offering a pizza with good potential and the potential for a quality upgrade in a different context.

Very good pizza. Expressly served, excellent flavor, all the ingredients are fresh, the dough is great, and the price is very reasonable. The service is very friendly, everyone is smiling and friendly. There's no parking directly outside, but you can find a parking lot nearby. Many people order takeout pizza here, so it's clear they keep coming back.

Vale, así que el título de mi reseña puede que sea un poco exagerado, pero realmente tuvimos las pizzas más espectaculares en este pequeño restaurante. Está a un poco de un paseo del centro turístico de Desenzano, pero bien vale la pena la caminata por la colina. No hay sistema de reserva en línea, así que nos arriesgamos y acabamos de aparecer. Qué apuesta tan valiosa. Tuvimos que esperar afuera bastante tiempo, pero sabíamos que no sería en vano ya que los olores hermosos salían del restaurante. Éramos los únicos no italianos, la mayoría de la gente era local, ya que parecían conocerse, lo que siempre es una buena señal. Todo el personal que conocimos era tan, tan amable y agradable. Finalmente, nos sentamos afuera y fue una experiencia muy agradable. Las pizzas son simplemente increíble! No hay otras palabras. Los precios son increíbles también. Esta fue la última noche de nuestras vacaciones y una de las más memorables. Recomiendo encarecidamente este humilde restaurante a cualquiera que busque una pizza sabrosa y sabrosa. ¡Vete, no te decepcionarás!
