07/02/2024: Tried it in the summer.
We conclude our food and wine journey in the wonderful Umbria with a pearl and with what turned out to be the best restaurant of these 2 weeks.
The Cellar is a truly beautiful place, it seems to be carved into the rock, but you can also dine, as we did, in the beautiful outdoor garden. As the name suggests, the underground cellars, in addition to being truly beautiful places worthy of a visit, are also the protagonists of what is a very respectable wine list, with proposals that range across our wine offering.
We had dinner with a Sagrantino from a rather new producer in the rich Umbrian panorama, Tenuta Bellafonte and their Collenottolo 2010 was truly fantastic!
The dinner began with their kindly offered entrée based on tomato soup with various small pizzas (with Cannara onions and coppa), which was very welcome.
Our choice went for an egg on potato cream, foie gras and black summer truffle. The dish was delicious: an exceptional balance of aromas and flavors. We then shared another appetizer because their offer of cold cuts was really too tempting and so we opted for a trio of excellent cold cuts, consisting of: patanegra joselito cut with a knife, sublime! wild pork ham aged for 6 years and speck from Val d'Ultimo Enrich Poder (from Trentino). The dish was accompanied by oven-baked goat's ricotta with truffles. Also in this case the unanimous comment was totally positive.
Finally, I had an exquisite Chianina tartare with truffle, while my partner chose an excellent dish of truffle tagliolini with duck ragout.
The dinner ended with some creme brulè for me and a tiramisu for her. Both dishes convinced us.
The service was impeccable, helpful and professional. The chef stopped by our table several times to explain the dishes and give us advice, all in a very discreet way.
In short, the place is highly recommended and the detour to the beautiful village of Cerreto di Spoleto is an absolute must.
