It's impossible to count the accolades Pasticceria Artale, Syracuse's most renowned pastry shop, has garnered over time. Half a century, at least head and shoulders above the competition, has been spent creating new desserts and flawlessly reimagining classics. Here, I indulged in tasting different versions of my favorite, the one I simply can't resist: the cannoli, a perfect embodiment of the Mediterranean diet (the carbohydrates from the wafer, the proteins from the ricotta, and the fats from the fruit are perfectly blended according to international guidelines; our ancestors knew better!). Their version, faithful to the ancient tradition, is among the best I've ever tasted; and when it comes to cannoli, I'm extremely strict, to say the least. You simply must try the giant cannoli cone: an ice cream cone made from a cannoli wafer, I swear it's the best cone you'll ever eat (the photo? There isn't one, I devoured it without shame...).

Delicious and generously filled cannoli 🥰 only €2.50, so very inexpensive compared to other nearby shops.

This place is excellent. The cannoli is some of the best I've had in Italy. It's not sickly sweet dosed with tonnes if extraneous stuff that takes away from the flavour, it's just great quality ricotta made slightly sweet dipped in some pistachios. Simple but perfect. Cornetto con crema was great as well and the coffee was on par with their peers in Italy.

Definitely a central and well-known place. I may have been unlucky in choosing the granita flavor, which didn't quite meet my expectations. But what I'd most like to note is that it was filled with large chunks of ice.

A truly fantastic experience! The granita was authentic, fresh, and full of flavor, perfect with a fragrant, soft, and slightly warm brioche. The cannoli rounded out the breakfast perfectly: a crispy wafer with a delicate, delicious ricotta filling. The espresso was also excellent. Friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere.
