The inn is run by the local community cooperative and serves as a social gathering place in a rural village with limited infrastructure and at risk of depopulation. Excellent regional cuisine, prepared primarily with local produce, offers excellent value for money. A friendly welcome. Beautiful views. Local products are also available for purchase.

It is worth making the trip from Rome to eat in this welcoming Osteria. Quality and tradition combined with the passion and experience of those who create in the kitchen!

We came across this place because we had heard about it and we were not disappointed :) We were struck by the very warm and welcoming environment and the love with which everything is done; from the preparation of the delicious dishes to the courtesy in taking orders at the table, ending with the kindness of the landlady who came to visit us at the table to ask us about us and tell us their story... in short, everything will tell you about community, attention to detail and hospitality. a meeting point for the local citizens, a precious and human initiative, an inn that absolutely must be supported and visited. You won't regret it. ❤️

Osteria in a tiny hamlet, San Giovanni delle Contee, of a small town, Sorano, between Maremma, Tuscia and Umbria. Just the journey to get there is a fascinating journey through an Italy made up of uncontaminated nature and landscapes of other times. The welcome and the service, simple but welcoming, with that "family" warmth that makes you immediately become familiar with the staff, the traditional local recipes, home-made but perfectly made and with quality raw materials and truly local 0, modest prices and a surprisingly vast wine list attentive to the artisanal realities of the area (among the many, note Cantina del Rospo) are just some of the reasons why you come back here again and again. An experience in a tavern that is actually a journey to another Italy that perhaps no longer exists but which is worth preserving and cherishing ❤️

What a splendid experience. Dishes prepared with love and with super local ingredients. I tried the meatballs with ricotta and vegetables. Breathtaking. I tried the pici (first course) and if you love garlic, this is the dish for you. The stuffed guinea fowl was wow. I finished with the lemon cream. Lemon 100% I also met the lady who rolls out the dough. Very kind everyone A little out of the way, but worth a visit

If you find yourself passing near San Giovanni delle Contee, it is certainly worth deviating from your route to eat at the Maccalè tavern. Nice environment, excellent traditional local food, very kind and welcoming people. A typical example of how Italianness can be valorised. Well done we had a great time.

Osteria in una minuscola frazione, San Giovanni delle Contee, di un piccolo paese, Sorano, a cavallo tra Maremma, Tuscia ed Umbria. Già solo il tragitto per arrivarci è un affascinante viaggio attraverso un'Italia fatta di natura incontaminata e paesaggi di altri tempi. L'accoglienza ed il servizio, semplici ma accoglienti, con quel calore di "famiglia" che ti fa entrare subito in confidenza con il personale, le ricette della tradizione locale, casarecce ma realizzate perfettamente e con una materia prima di qualità e davvero a km 0, i prezzi modici ed una carta dei vini sorprendentemente vasta ed attenta alle realtà artigianali del territorio (tra le tante segnatevi Cantina del Rospo) sono solo alcuni dei motivi per cui tornare e ritornare qui. Un'esperienza in osteria che in realtà è un viaggio in un'altra Italia che forse non esiste più ma che vale la pena preservare e custodire ❤️

A pochi kilometri da Pitigliano e da Sorano in un piccolo borgo abbiamo trovato quest'angolo di paradiso culinario. Tutti i piatti tipici della cucina toscano sono confezionati con prodotti tassativamente locali. Ottimo antipasto a base di salumi e formaggi, primi piatti con pasta fatta a mano. La gentilezza del personale poi fa il resto. Quando di passaggio sicuramente ci ritorneremo.
