We had lunch at this authentic Osteria and loved it. The warm service and the ambience ensured that we all felt very comfortable and at the same time the food tasted so delicious that we will remember it for a long time. The pasta with truffles we serve is unsurpassed.

Traditional restaurant. Excellent game/meat cuisine. The wines were also very good. Rustic setting (I like it). Very friendly welcome from the owners (in the dining room and in the kitchen). I recommend !

We had tried to dine here before without reservation - with no luck. And we saw others who tried the same this time. But we had luckily reserved so we were welcomed this time. They have different set menus and we tried the version with wild boar and deer. We were generally very pleased with the 3 dishes. And we had a very nice rosé wine. Servings were done rather quickly. All in all a good experience. (But if you have not reserved the message might be very clear: No space!).

This is your last chance in Castiglione del Lago before you hit the ultra-tourist and ultra-expensive restaurants! Just outside the stairs that take you to the historic center of the city, Le Scalette is fantastic for several reasons. First, they have three main menus: hunter, cinta senese, and fish. (Don't pay attention to the stuff at the back of the book; pick from one of those three). Thus, you really can get accommodation for almost any taste. The ravioli with baccala inside were fantastic, served with an unusual (for Umbria, although we are less than 10km from Tuscany) sauce. For someone in our party who couldn't eat fish, the cinta senese (Italian high-end pig, similar to the famous 'pata negra' from Spain as a special very tasty breed) was delicious. The view is also nice, and the pricing is great given how close it is to the over-touristed street just above. It's not a linen-tablecloth and everyone-speaks-perfect-english kind of place it's a place where you can get food and wine at a fair price in a lovely setting. After lunch, head up the stairs and watch the tourists buying magnets and bad gelato. But enjoy a great lunch at Le Scalette first.
