A lovely discovery, with an atmosphere and dishes from days gone by, and a story told by the owner behind every dish, this place is a real gem.

A journey back in time to my grandmother's traditional cuisine. An authentic experience, the feeling of being invited into the home of host Claudio, who, with his kind company, tells you stories and anecdotes from the history of the inn, with the sole aim of making you feel good! Delicious, traditional cuisine. Highly recommended! Thank you, I hope you'll return soon.

Claudio, the ninety-two-year-old host, accompanied us, with his fascinating anecdotes, on this unexpected and delightful evening in a timeless place. I truly don't understand how anyone could be annoyed by such a display of love for cuisine and convivial hospitality. A fixed menu and no price: so what? You eat well, in a unique setting, accompanied by a man who is a monument in his own right—what more could you want? Take my advice: stay home. I highly recommend it to enthusiasts and dreamers.

We arrived by chance, interrupting our journey while looking for somewhere to eat near a highway exit. We stumbled upon a lovely restaurant, steeped in history and tradition. The photos plastered across the walls speak volumes about the famous people who have stopped here, and the host, a chatty ninety-year-old, entertained us as he wandered from table to table, telling anecdotes and explaining the origins of the dishes on the menu. As is typical for an osteria, the menu was a fixed one, comprising several courses. We sampled tortellini (so-called because they were made specifically for Drake Ferrari, who couldn't eat meat) in broth without meat but with beetroot, the minestraccia (a soup with suckling pig), beans with ham rinds, meatballs, cabbage salad, and polenta cake. What can I say? It was all very interesting and a lovely experience, but ultimately (and it wasn't cheap, either) nothing impressed me enough to make me think...I have to go back. If you haven't been there already, the place is worth a visit.

I've never been so happy to pay the bill. We ate everything beautifully, from the appetizers to the liqueur, entertained with delightful historical flashes by the owner, who paired his dishes with great charm. The menu included two first courses, two second courses, and three side dishes: few dishes, but cooked with excellent craftsmanship. I'm happy to have discovered a place we'll love to return to as soon as possible. Arturo, January 8, 2026 P.S. I'm also taking away four bottles of their fantastic cherry wine!

After a quick reservation the night before (at 10:30 PM), 24 of us (!) were greeted with a smile and a wealth of professionalism, the result of the experience of those who have welcomed guests for a lifetime. It shows in the photos, but above all in the way they made us feel at ease and part of the history of this place, close to the Mo Nord toll booth but magically secluded between the banks of the Secchia River and the lime trees. We ate well, with portions that filled us up happily. The selection was limited, but that's not a bad thing. It's an osteria as you imagine osterias to be in the olden days, so you leave and want to return.

A quaint inn serving simple, tasty, traditional cuisine. The owner is friendly and engaging, sharing pleasant experiences he's had here. The waiter is equally friendly and courteous.

Hostaria La Frasca

09/03/2026: Legend has it that a place still exists in the heart of Modena, a tiny hideaway of culinary excellence where, upon entering, you're welcomed into one of the most authentic and traditional establishments. This small, intimate kingdom, a room with five or six tables, has been run dictatorially for the past 35 or 40 years solely by Signora Ada. In the morning, she goes to the Albinelli market to do the shopping, then cooks, serves, manages, etc. Just her and a unique passion. Exceptional dishes, always freshly made and never heavy. BUT THIS IS NOT A PLACE FOR EVERYONE, BEWARE!!! There's a menu, but it usually directs you to the best of what the market has to offer daily, as she's the only one there, and therefore dictatorial. She'll make sexual jokes and thinly veiled innuendos that might make the uninitiated stiff. But that's part of the show and the convivial atmosphere that's created among the patrons. She's a unique character. Anyway, three appetizers: porchetta and snow peas, prosciutto and melon, cotechino and cabbage. Top. Tortelloni, and a main course of guinea fowl, shank, or whatever. House cakes, water, wine, nocino liqueur, and mokona coffee, or if you're among the last to arrive, go and drink it with her at the bar... €40. Excellent, light and not heavy, no less than the most prestigious restaurants in the city. A day out of the ordinary. Thank you, Ada, for your passion.
09/01/2026: At Hostaria La Frasca, you'll enjoy a unique and deeply human experience. Signora Ada does everything herself: she cooks, waits tables, and welcomes guests with a naturalness that makes them feel instantly at home. The dishes are authentic, carefully crafted, and prepared with love; even the bread is made by her, and you can taste it. The atmosphere is truly special: small, chic, and yet curious, filled with memorabilia and objects that tell the story of a lifetime. Every detail has a story, making the place intimate and charming. The best moment comes at the end of the evening, when Ada sits down with her guests for a drink, as one would with friends. It's not just a dinner, but an authentic, rare, and precious experience. A place that will remain in your heart.
