Really good food, friendly owner, recommended

A small restaurant paneled in dark wood, with simple tables and chairs. Unfortunately, no outdoor seating. BUT: We had a fantastic meal! The baked fried potatoes were divine, as were the baked eggplants. The meal was rounded off with a cheese and charcuterie platter and a generous and excellent mixed salad. The waiter became our favorite: incredibly attentive and warm, the way he explained the dishes not on the menu to each guest was sensational. We enjoyed the local white wine, Pignoletto, which was wonderfully light and sparkling. A highly recommended place, far from the tourist crowds. A culinary gem. We will definitely be back.

A beautiful old-fashioned osteria.... one of those places where, when you're eating excellent food, you realize you're in Bologna, a menu that truly represents the city.... In the historic center, there are very few Bolognese osterias like this left where the food is this good....

Finally made it to Osteria della Fondazza after missing it on my last trip. I arrived early and was the first one in, but the place filled up quickly, so clearly it’s popular. The setting is rustic and exactly what you’d expect. I was hoping for a truly authentic Bolognese experience, and this didn’t quite deliver. I ordered the ravioli with walnuts. The dish itself was good, but the walnuts weren’t properly shelled, which made it difficult to eat without worrying about breaking a tooth, not ideal. I spoke Italian, the waiter responded in English, and even after I mentioned I’m learning, he continued in English. Also worth noting, very little Italian was spoken overall, which surprised me. The house wine was surprisingly decent. The glassware, not so much. Overall, a solid meal but nothing memorable enough to return for.

Absolutely wonderful, local place, no fancy interior but love the bottle display. Our server was very lovely and explained things well in English. Stunning food. Great prices. Amazing
