I booked a table for lunch for my husband and I a few days in advance, figuring it would be a good idea since it was Sunday lunch.
The welcome and service were courteous and friendly, and the service was prompt.
We ordered water and Sangiovese, and for the main courses, salami and Ferrarese bread as an appetizer, and rolled rabbit with artichoke cream and larded pork with spinach as our main courses. We enjoyed everything, topping off the meal with a warm tenerina dessert.

We found this place by chance, but it's impressive both in terms of the atmosphere and the food. The staff are professional and friendly. Highly recommended.

...found almost by accident while looking for a typical restaurant in the city center.
Friendly and very familiar service. The location is rustic and basic, with paper tablecloths and napkins, but truly well-kept and welcoming.
The dishes were extraordinary...a real discovery, with ancient flavors of Ferrara tradition.
Recommended, but...reservations are required.

My family and I had lunch at this Osteria on Sunday, November 16th. When I made my reservation, I mentioned that I'm vegan, and Ruggero, the host, while emphasizing that their cuisine is traditional Ferrara and therefore wouldn't be able to offer me a wide variety of options, responded with kindness, courtesy, and willingness to find a solution that wouldn't overwhelm either the kitchen or me (as I think EVERY passionate restaurateur should do). Upon our arrival, Ruggero was thoughtful and attentive, making us feel welcome, and his mother even prepared me a double portion of polenta with porcini mushrooms as an appetizer! For the main course, a delicious plate of homemade potato gnocchi (tough, just like the ones my grandmother used to make) with a radicchio, onion, and butternut squash sauce...a dream!
ALL ingredients that were on the menu, which they simply had to combine differently without betraying tradition or overturning the menu.
Even though I haven't tried the local dishes, I can say that the cappellacci al ragù looked magnificent!

Being accommodated in Venice we decided to spend one of the days in Ferrara. That day the weather was not with us and we were looking for a warm place to sit and talk and drink a coffee.
We saw the sign of this Osteria and decided to enter.
We were struck by the pure Italian spirit and the cheerful people who spoke wonderful Italian.
The menus were in Italian and we had no idea what to order.
A very nice gentleman came and gave us the desired directions, thus ordering the best veal we have ever eaten. Better even than the one in Florence.
