I am incredibly late posting this review (I’m so sorry Marta!). Dinner at Martarè was hands down the best meal we ate during our time in Florence.
If you are looking for a non-touristy, truly warm and friendly place to have a homemade Italian meal, go here.
The homemade gnocchi was easily the best I’ve ever had, and my husband said the same about his pappardelle. He had ordered a similar dish at another place the night before and it could not even compare.
On top of the food being amazing, Marta was such a sweet and kind host. She recommended a lovely wine for our meal, and graciously and patiently connected with us through our bits of broken Italian and the help of google translate.
Our night at Martarè was the best night of our trip. Make sure to add it to your list while in Florence.

A unique gastronomic experience!
A few streets from Piazza del Duomo, this somewhat hidden restaurant is definitely worth the detour. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and the service is fast and extremely efficient. The dishes are both simple and refined, and absolutely delicious. A great place for authentic and flavorful cuisine in a discreet but welcoming setting.

In the quiet and peaceful Florence at night, this place tries to make its voice heard by focusing on a mix of tradition and modernity.
Location and service:
- Modern, elegant and welcoming venue. The music in the background improves the atmosphere because it envelops and does not bother at all.
- Excellent service. Welcomed by the owner Marta who accompanied us with joy and kindness on this beautiful journey of flavors and tradition. Even when faced with questions about dishes and recipes, he was happy to answer and introduce the products of their cuisine. He made us feel completely at ease with some chatter and jokes during the service. My most sincere compliments.
Food :
- Before even receiving the appetizers, we were offered some tomato pizzas. Good, hot and tasty. It was much appreciated.
- The appetizers, divided between hot and cold, are abundant for a single person, so it is better to share the goodness of the dishes. Between an exceptional oil, the bread made by them (including small sandwiches, roasted bread flavored with oregano and squash, all made by them), a delicate and light Tuscan crostini, and a small stracchino and sausage sandwich that explodes in the mouth, I can only say that it was all delicious. I consider this super complete appetizer a small journey into tradition. Furthermore, for some of the appetizers an edible flower was added which added a colorful note and a hint on the palate.
- Moving on to the first courses, I had the opportunity to taste both the gnocchi and an off-menu of the day, ravioli with ricotta and spinach topped with a blue cheese cream. The ravioli had an excellent consistency and the thickness of the pasta was proportionate to the filling, well made and very pleasant. The blue cream was suitable for those ravioli, which were wrapped and pampered by this blue flavor. As for the gnocchi, I appreciated their consistency and lightness. The pecorino cream is good, necessary for every bite, because without it, the gnocco lacked a bit of flavour. All in all a more than pleasant dish.
- Moving on briefly to the second courses, I gave a small taste to the pork ossobuco. Good, well cooked, delicate, and the side dishes alongside the dish aren't bad either. A successful dish.
I would add that we were also offered the cantuccini produced by them. Exceptional. Crispy, light and delicate.
Price :
Excellent price considering quantity, quality and location of the place. I think it is truly the correct cost, therefore a truly excellent quality/price ratio.
Conclusions:
A wonderful discovery where I had the opportunity to meet a very kind owner, excellent food, in a non-touristy place where you can spend a quiet and tasty dinner, where you can have fun discovering everything the owners have to say through the dishes. Clearly, worth returning.

Location e servizio :
- Locale moderno, elegante e accogliente.

A magnificent discovery in the heart of Florence! The restaurant Martarè, cucina vini e specialty dal 1962 is an authentic address, run with passion by an endearing couple: the lady in the dining room, attentive and warm, the gentleman in the kitchen, master of flavors.
The deliberately reduced menu is a guarantee of quality, highlighting fresh, seasonal products, often grown in their own vegetable garden. Each dish tells a story, that of a land that the owners know and love deeply.
The atmosphere is elegant without being pretentious, the setting is neat, and the experience is enhanced by a beautiful wine list. The wise advice for food and wine pairings once again demonstrates their passion and their know-how.
The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the welcome and the products. A sincere, generous and soulful address. Not to be missed if you pass through Florence.
