Osteria da Mariano In

Daniele, the owner of Hotel L'Approdo delle Sirene, recommended Osteria Mariano while we were in Ortigia, and it was a gem. The atmosphere had a truly rustic Sicilian feel, tucked away in a charming alley that gave it an intimate, local vibe. The maitre d’ made me feel so comfortable that, for the first time in my life, I let him choose my meal — no clue what was coming until it hit the table. He brought out pasta con alici, true to Sicilian tradition, and I absolutely loved it. Every dish was authentic and full of flavor. The litre of vino della casa rosso was delicious and a fantastic value. Overall, a great local spot and definitely worth a return visit — in fact, we went back. Saluti

It's wonderful to be able to eat the world's best pizza in such a historic location, right in the city center, outdoors in the late October sunshine. The very friendly service was excellent. And the prices are also modest...

We ate here in 2024, and at my daughter's express request we came to Mariano's for lunch again this year. This time we took a seat inside, not on the street, and were surprised to see how big the place was inside. Several small rooms with 4-5 tables, there must have been about 20-25 guests in total, including us. The waiters were busy, and we were lucky that the owner finally paid us. The grill platters didn't really win us over. The swordfish was better, in a patterned place, but the sardines were very dried out. The squid was also chewier than it should have been. We would rate the fish platter 3/5. In the meat mix, the lamb was also dry and chewy, and there was nothing that stood out in terms of taste. The pork was good and so was the sausage (we haven't eaten such sausages yet, but I liked it). We rated it 4/5, if we round the value up. My daughter said that the spaghetti was excellent, according to her expectations and memories, so 5/5. We all liked the caponata, although it was not the best recipe we ate on the island, so 4.5/5. I think it is overpriced, or more precisely, it is in line with the interior of the island, but 10-20% higher than the average price in Siracusa.

We stumbled upon it by chance because it's located on a very narrow street. And we were pleasantly surprised; the food was great, but the service was excellent. The owner is quite a character!

A very pleasant address, in an alleyway away from the crowds. Tasty dishes, served by friendly waiters. Recommended for lovers of good Sicilian cuisine.

We had a very bad meal. We received acceptable service. The owner is a friendly character who enhances the experience, but it's not enough. You mainly go there to eat. I wouldn't go back.
