I've been frequenting Da Afro for years. Owner Dario applies a simple yet extraordinarily effective philosophy: seasonality and quality, quality and seasonality!
The menu changes practically every season, and the cuisine uses locally sourced products, crafted into never-pretentious recipes rooted in Friulian tradition (and beyond).
In winter, a roaring fireplace adds to the restaurant's emotional warmth.

We were passing through Spilimbergo and stayed one night in this simple but cozy place, with a clean and spacious room.
There was a small mix-up, so Dario, the super-kind owner, offered us a discount and a bottle of wine. We also ate there, a delicious experience. Highly recommended!

Excellent restaurant with quality dishes. Dario, the owner, is also an excellent chef, as well as a kind and welcoming person, and the staff is also friendly and attentive. The dishes, which generally reflect the Friulian menu, are unique and delicious. The price is right for the quality. I highly recommend trying it.

Ristorante da Afro is one of my regular stops during my travels in Friuli.
I started, as usual, with the excellent San Daniele prosciutto and then tried the Asìno cheese, typical of the Vito d'Asio and Clauzetto area.
We then continued with the fragrant tagliatelle with truffles, and the Acqualagna dish is tagliatelle with mushrooms and white veal ragù.
The fiordilatte ice cream was excellent.
We also tasted a fine Sauvignon from a local winery that held its own against the renowned Collio wines.

The hotel and restaurant are highly recommended. The rooms are large, well-equipped, and very clean. The dining room and breakfast room are very elegant and homey. They perfectly complement the traditional dishes, which are also regionally and seasonally adapted. The chef himself speaks very good German, is helpful, and offers good tips.

I didn't stay at the hotel, but only at the restaurant, because it was recommended in the ADAC Veneto-Friuli travel guide. The dinner there was good, but not as high-class as I had expected after the great recommendation. On the other hand, the manager, who was also the only server, was very friendly and communicative.
The fact that only one other guest came could have been because I was there quite early (from 7:30 p.m. to about 9:30 p.m.) or because the prices were quite high. Nevertheless – if you're not watching the euro – a good and recommendable restaurant!
