For many years, I've traveled for work and pleasure throughout Italy and abroad, and for the first time in my life, in this typical Friulian osteria I was able to taste dishes that looked and tasted exactly like the food I ate at home, prepared by my mother. In this old osteria in the center of Udine, you can enjoy the authentic flavors of traditional Friulian home cooking. A reasonably varied menu, fast and efficient service, adequate portions, and reasonable prices. A well-deserved 5 stars.

A few minutes’ walk from the Castle, Osteria al Marinaio is a real gem. The goulash was incredibly tender – the meat practically melted in the mouth – and paired beautifully with the polenta, which was soft, delicate, and light, creating the perfect balance. The dessert, enriched with a touch of grappa, along with the wine and coffee, was a very pleasant finish. Even the lentils, though a bit salty for my taste, were flavorful and hearty. The atmosphere is truly unique and cozy, almost like being in a countryside cottage rather than in the city. It can get crowded, and service may take a little time, but the experience is absolutely worth it. A warm, authentic spot for anyone looking to enjoy a comforting meal in a welcoming setting.
