We have stayed here twice and it is one of my favorite hotels in the world. Excellent staff and service, love the breakfast buffet and the newly remodeled rooftop restaurant is a must. A special hotel and staff for sure plus the location is close to everything.

From the moment you cross the threshold, the lobby envelops you in pure opulence: soaring ceilings dripping with magnificent chandeliers that sparkle like a thousand tiny stars, polished marble floors echoing your footsteps, and gilded details that whisper of a more glamorous era. It’s old-world elegance at its finest—grand, unapologetically lavish, and utterly romantic. My room? Mio Dio, it felt like I’d been cast in a romantic drama opposite Marcello Mastroianni. Heavy silk drapes framing views of Rome’s rooftops, ornate moldings, a four-poster bed fit for royalty, and those enormous, glittering chandeliers casting a soft, golden glow that made every evening feel like an intimate scene from a Fellini film. The space was spacious, luxurious, and dripping with character—every corner evoked the golden age of cinema and dolce vita sophistication. The staff? Bellissimo. Warm, attentive, professional, yet with that effortless Italian charm that makes you feel like famiglia. They anticipated every need with a smile, a recommendation for the perfect trattoria, or a quiet “buonasera” that lingered like perfume in the air. Yes, the television is delightfully vintage—straight out of the 1950s, small and charmingly retro. But honestly, who needs modern screens when you’re living in a living postcard? Turn it off, open the window to the sounds of Rome, and let the city serenade you instead. It’s the one tiny “flaw” that only adds to the nostalgic magic. This hotel isn’t trying to be trendy or minimalist—thank goodness. It’s proudly classic, proudly grand, and proudly Roman. If you’re seeking an unforgettable stay that feels like a passionate affair with the Eternal City, book The Westin Excelsior without hesitation. It’s not just a hotel; it’s cinema come to life. Great hotel, centrally located and walking distance to shopping and sightseeing

We stayed for three nights in early January, and this was our third stay. The Westin Excelsior is our go-to hotel whenever we visit Rome. They treat Bonvoy members exceptionally well, and it always makes our stay in Rome special. We were very happy to see many of the same staff in the breakfast room as last year. The lobby staff were very kind and greeted us warmly every time we entered or left the hotel, always with a smile. In the breakfast room, all the staff worked hard and were attentive and friendly. I felt that the service was even better than last year, which made our stay in Rome especially enjoyable. We travel at least three times a year and have stayed at many high-end hotel brands such as St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton, Banyan Tree, and Fairmont. This year, the service at The Westin was surprisingly on par with those luxury hotels. The staff all seemed genuinely happy and did their best to provide excellent service. We feel the general manager runs the hotel very well. Housekeeping and turndown service were also outstanding. Overall, we had another wonderful stay in Rome with exceptional service and will definitely return again.

The hotel was nice, but unfortunately the staff, especially the front desk, were very unfriendly, if not completely unfriendly. They all looked like they were in a bad mood or didn't want to work; that was the only unpleasant thing about my stay.

Updated Review Calling this a 5-star hotel is misleading at best. The property showed clear signs of wear—worn carpets, outdated rooms, and inconsistent maintenance that fell short of expectations. A broken shower head was reported multiple times over two days with no resolution. When it was finally replaced on day three, the broken fixture was left in the sink, which felt unprofessional. On day four, I had requested an 8:00 a.m. taxi to the airport at the standard €55 rate. Instead, a private car arrived at €65 without prior notice or consent. That said, after posting my initial review, I was contacted directly by Marc Lannoy, the General Manager. He acknowledged the issues and service failures, taking responsibility for what went wrong. He followed through to correct the mistakes and rectify the situation, which I genuinely appreciate. While the stay itself had notable shortcomings, the manager’s personal outreach and effort to resolve the problems showed professionalism and accountability. Because of that, I’m updating my review to 4 stars to reflect the positive way the situation was ultimately handled.
