Great restaurant - we were able to enjoy excellent pasta dishes with a view of the Colosseum - very, very nice, courteous staff.

The spaghetti carbonara was a little too tasty, the rest was fine.

Good cafe for its price. Caesar is certainly questionable, but to each his own. Tiramisu is obviously store-bought, but tasty. The view is excellent

This restaurant was recommended to us by our host. When we were there we wanted to have a drink and relax. When we sat down we were politely asked if we wanted to eat something. When we said no, we were asked to leave or order something at the bar and consume it there. The only strange thing was that others didn't eat anything either. Unfortunately I can't judge what the food or drinks are like because we went to another restaurant afterwards.
To be fair, I have to mention that the restaurant was full and so they could choose their customers. We don't think that's a shame as there are plenty of other bars. So if you want to drink something, at the bar or somewhere else.

Honestly, I had read a lot of negative reviews, but I decided not to judge until I tried it myself. Initially, the service was very slow and the staff weren’t friendly — it felt like they were forced to serve you.
But to be fair, the dishes we ordered were super delicious and exceeded expectations. The pizza dough was amazing — I definitely recommend it!
To be honest, I was reading a lot of negative comments, but I said I wouldn't judge until I tried it. Initially, the service is very slow and not cheerful. You feel like they are being robbed of your service.
But to be honest, the orders we ordered were delicious and exceeded expectations. The pizza had an amazing dough and I would recommend it.

We were lucky and were able to get a good spot with a great view. However, you also have to eat and drink something here to get a seat. We were served friendly and our food and drinks came quickly. We enjoyed the pizzas and drinks and the view was our highlight. The prices were also okay. We would recommend it.

A caffe for your essential breakfast and grab-n-go cappuccino at the bar, if you’re in a hurry to get back seeing the sights close to the Rome Coliseum. There are plenty of tables inside and outside. They serve lunch and dinner. This can become busy with locals and mostly tourists. The atmosphere is attractive and the service staff are welcoming.

During my trip to Rome in 2019/2020, a memorable experience I had was visiting Oppio Caffè with a close friend. Despite the quieter streets and the unusual atmosphere caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the charm of this café made it stand out as one of the highlights of our time in the Eternal City. Situated near the Colosseum, Oppio Caffè offers a delightful combination of great coffee, delicious food, and a welcoming atmosphere that made our visit unforgettable, even under the unique circumstances of the pandemic.
Atmosphere: Cozy and Inviting Amid Quiet Streets
The atmosphere at Oppio Caffè was warm and inviting, even though the streets of Rome were quieter than usual due to the pandemic. The café’s interior is modern yet cozy, with a simple yet stylish décor that makes you feel right at home. With fewer tourists around, the café had a tranquil, almost peaceful vibe, which allowed for a more intimate and relaxing experience. We sat at a table outside, overlooking the quieter streets, and enjoyed the slower pace of life. The environment felt safe and comfortable, and the staff took all the necessary precautions to ensure a pleasant experience. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Oppio Caffè’s ability to maintain its welcoming ambiance made it a standout spot for us.
Service: Friendly and Attentive
The service at Oppio Caffè was one of the highlights of our visit. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and genuinely seemed to care about providing a great experience. Despite the quieter atmosphere, they were attentive and made us feel like we were part of their café family. Whether it was answering questions about the menu or recommending the best pastries to go with our coffee, the staff went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable. It’s clear that customer service is a top priority for them, and their genuine warmth added to the overall enjoyment of the visit. Even during such uncertain times, the staff's professionalism made us feel reassured and well taken care of.
Food and Coffee: High Quality and Delicious
Oppio Caffè truly shines when it comes to its food and coffee. We enjoyed a selection of pastries, including a flaky, buttery croissant that paired perfectly with the rich, aromatic coffee. The café serves excellent Italian espresso and cappuccinos, which were a treat for us as coffee lovers. Each sip was smooth, strong, and flavorful, providing the perfect start to our day.
We also tried a few savory options from the menu, such as a delicious panini filled with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The food was well-prepared and full of flavor, showing the café's commitment to offering more than just good coffee. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick espresso or looking to enjoy a leisurely breakfast or lunch, Oppio Caffè delivers on all fronts with high-quality offerings.
Value for Money: Reasonable Prices
Given the location of the café near the Colosseum, I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the prices were. While the surrounding area can sometimes be known for tourist-heavy pricing, Oppio Caffè offered great value for money without sacrificing quality. The food and drinks were priced fairly, making it accessible for both tourists and locals. We felt that we got excellent quality for the cost, which only added to the positive experience.
Conclusion: A Standout Experience in a Quieter Rome
Despite the quieter streets during the Covid-19 pandemic, our visit to Oppio Caffè was a highlight of our time in Rome. The welcoming atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food and coffee made it a memorable stop. In a city that is often bustling with tourists, Oppio Caffè stood out as a peaceful retreat where we could enjoy great coffee, indulge in tasty pastries, and savor the beauty of Rome’s quieter side. If you find yourself in the area, I highly recommend stopping by for a taste of authentic Italian hospitality. It’s a place that made our trip to Rome even more special, and I look forward to returning in the future.
