Aside from the station itself—not just a train stop—what needs to be done? What needs to be considered? The structure... the function... the organization... the complex... what? It's a strategic location for the entire national structure, not only for transportation but—obviously—also for tourism, commerce, pilgrimages, and culture. Today, it would all be summed up in the word "HUB," but I still find it diminutive. This is especially true given its history and its size, which makes it not only the largest in Rome and all of Italy, but also the fifth largest in Europe in terms of size and traffic volume. It took its name from the thermal baths that stand directly opposite (or rather, opposite which it was built). It began life in the second half of the 19th century, but what we see today is the result of the megaproject designed by Angiolo Mazzoni in 1930, to whom we certainly owe the lateral buildings (construction was interrupted during the war in 1943). The project was completed by a team of various architects and designers who completed the work after the war, culminating in its inauguration in 1950, with that grandiose and controversial canopy that, when viewed in profile, strongly resembles the silhouette of a brontosaurus. Over time, this beautiful structure with its large halls and corridors, which has retained its 32+ tracks, has undergone modernizations and additions, starting with the underground wing of the Forum and the construction of the parking lot. Today, it's been given a makeover again—jubilees are crucial times—and aside from the square in front (still bare and shamefully unadorned), it also offers improved services and plenty of hospitality. This doesn't eliminate the problems, but it alleviates the inconvenience and makes it easier to use: at times, queues and chaos reign even though everything is monitored and digitalized. What will you find? Information and assistance, ticket machines, shops, refreshment stands, restaurants, bookstores, pharmacies, cell phones, and many other outlets. What should you watch out for? The queues, sometimes unnerving, the chaos and crowds, the presence of armies of thieves and pickpockets (the security is intense, but inside you're still at risk, especially near the ticket offices and in queues), sometimes long walks (just in case you have to go to platforms B2...the ones on the right and left edges...you'll have to trudge a few hundred meters before you get there). The connection to the Metro B line is good, but taxis are still a bit limited compared to what's needed (beware of unlicensed taxis). Outside, it's still in disrepair, but overall, everything has improved greatly. If you're passing by, you might want to check out the building itself, which is worth a look. Need some useful info? The station is full of shops and restaurants of all kinds. The restrooms are well-maintained, clean, and well-maintained!
Trenitalia and Italo lounges are located inside for stocking up and getting supplies.
Update August 2025: The station was quite clean and welcoming, despite my train arriving late at night. It's a shame the public restrooms closed at 10:00 PM!

Not much seating for such a big train station, toilets cost €1,20 which is outrageous. Staff gave incorrect information twice about my bus. Plenty of shops and security staff which is nice.

It is a terminal station in the center of Rome. There are many restaurants, souvenir shops, etc. inside the station. There are also many shops and hotels around the station.

A very important station for Italian trains, with many shops and many bars and restaurants where you can grab a quick bite if you're in a hurry. Very crowded!

Arrived around 10 at night, could not see much as I went straight down to subway. All the stores were closed, wish I arrived earlier in the day so I could explore it more.

Roma Termini is a good and convenient station, well-connected to trains, buses, and the metro. However, I did notice some people tailgating to enter the station gates, so just be mindful of your belongings.
When buying tickets, make sure you have either card or cash ready – split payments aren’t accepted. Overall, it’s a functional and central hub for getting around Rome.
