Beautiful, austere church, with a crypt and an old mosaic floor from the early church. Can be visited for a fee. Tickets are for sale next to the church. You can also buy a ticket for the museum for an additional 3 euros (2026).

I was lucky enough to hardly run into anyone, and when I was alone, I sat down and breathed in the silence for I don't know how long. The employee, a very respectful and kind young man, told me some interesting facts about the Baroque tombs in the transept.

A superb church in a medieval village with narrow streets. A crypt houses a large Roman-era mosaic with a griffin design.

A place not to be missed! The co-cathedral is beautiful and imposing, I believe one of the most beautiful in Puglia. The visit to the underground archaeological area is also truly interesting.

The cathedral (actually the Concattedrale) of Bitonto, due to its relatively short construction period and harmonious proportions, is one of the most unified examples of Apulian Romanesque architecture. Both the architecture and the incredibly diverse and delicate sculptural work make the building, especially on the west and south sides, a kind of monumental shrine. However, it does not dominate the cathedral square; rather, like a stage set, it plays the leading role, relegating the other houses and palazzi to their almost equally important supporting roles. The interior of the cathedral is also characterized by unity, well-proportioned spaces, and the delicate structure of the various vertical zones. This is particularly evident in the triforiums, which mediate magnificently between the side aisles and the clerestory, thus playing a similar role inside to the hexaforia on the exterior.

The city itself is worth a visit. A medieval architectural marvel that retains its period charm intact. The beautiful external colonnade on the sides, which we've seen in other cathedrals, including that of Chieti, is stunning. The crypt is also interesting.

La Campagnola

10/06/2026: La Campagnola restaurant and pizzeria in the Bari hinterland, in the center of Bitritto, offers a balanced menu of typical local and regional specialties. The generous appetizers and welcoming atmosphere pay homage to the old 17th-century olive oil mill, which has been perfectly transformed into a refined, clean restaurant. Last but not least, a special thanks goes to the Bitonto prodigy, Cosimo, who gave us the opportunity to discover his world and his well-cooked, flavorful, and very light pizzas. I'll conclude by saying that the next time we pass through Bitritto, we'll definitely come to La Campagnola. And, as I always say, enjoy!
10/06/2026: In the heart of the ancient city of Bitritto, we discovered a hidden gem. La Campagnola is a pizzeria located inside a former 17th-century olive oil mill. The location features ancient stone walls that lend the experience a relaxing atmosphere. The service from the entire staff is simply exceptional. The quality of the products is superb; I recommend the Slow Food cheese board and the Cinta Sienese pizza. Pizza chef Cosimo is a master of leavened products and will be able to recommend the best dishes for you, as will the entire staff. A fantastic experience; we will definitely be back.
