Mater Bistrot In Milano

Food was good, but it wasn’t anything special. The wine pairings did not fit that well with the food.

I’ve eaten here twice now. Both times I was thrilled with the food. While everything was excellent, I particularly appreciated a risotto with peanut sauce, chimichurri, and smoked herring, and a beef diaphragm, also with chimichurri and smoked herring (these were on two different evenings). The food is of the quality that I expect in much more stuffy places. Here the atmosphere is casual and not stuffy at all. 😀

Nonostante il nome bistrot venga spesso associato a qualcosa di caro senza averne le qualità , Mater bistrot spicca invece per una cucina si sofisticata ma genuina. Veramente ottimi gli antipasti (7/14€) sia carciofi alla giudia che le bombette di maiale (slurp). Proseguiamo benissimo con risotto ai tre pomodori (22€) e il manzo all’olio (wow). Raffinati i dolci (sbrisolona con crema pasticciera al timo e albicocche -10€) ma non all’altezza del resto. Calici 7€. Bisogna tornarci!

Bistrot raccolto, che durante la bella stagione ha anche tavolini all’esterno. Personale simpatico e professionale. Menù a la carte oppure degustazione (con 3 diversi percorsi). Noi abbiamo optato per il menù degustazione con 4 portate, ci è piaciuto molto, abbiamo assaggiato piatti creatovi e ben preparati, anche se non tutti dello stesso livello. Ci siamo trovati bene.

Visited for the fourth time in June 2024– still our favorite in Milan. The three tomato risotto is absolutely "amazing"! It's truly mouth-watering! Visit 7.12.2023 – Mater Bistro is in Lido 84/Contraste of bistros! Keep pushing guys! Just splendid.

Small restaurant with tightly spaced seating and a minimalistic, industrial look. It wasn't full the evenig we dined, hence we had some privacy eating. We chose the menu and a bottle of wine. Water comes filtered from the tap and is therefore very moderatly priced. Shame they didn't have a beer. Food was probably one of the best we had during our trip. Served from an open kitchen, it consisted of very well balanced flavours and was light in taste and texture. Unusual was the in-between courses to cleanse your pallate. I only knew this to be served between main course and dessert, it did work very well here. Service was fast and friendly, there were never any overly long waiting times between courses. If you're in Milan, go to this place. It is worth it.
