Mare Nostrum Seafood In Roma

A corner of the Mediterranean in Trastevere! Excellent dishes, very kind owners. Truly a beautiful evening. I highly recommend.

I recently dined at the Mare Nostrum restaurant that truly impressed me with its seafood offerings. The oysters were exceptional—larger and more flavorful than any I’ve had in America. Paired with a crisp white wine, the combination elevated the experience, complementing the fish perfectly. The filet dish was a standout; the fish was moist and beautifully paired with cherry tomatoes and pine nuts, creating a delightful flavor profile that exceeded my expectations. The fish remained beautifully moist with each bite. The starter amuse-bouche was a delightful surprise, setting the stage for the meal. The octopus was another highlight, expertly cooked and beautifully plated. Although, after a minute or two the octopus became chewy and hard to eat. The staff was very friendly and willing to accommodate in English rather than Italian. My only complain would be they are not well educated in allergies and what foods contain what allergens. I was able to navigate the menu as an individual with a gluten allergy but it was difficult without the nutrition information and allergen markings. The restaurant is small but nicely placed. It was very hot sitting outside and the table kept getting ants, but the owner can't control the weather nor the wild life around the restaurant. This is just a consequence of having an outdoor section of the restaurant. Overall, this dining experience was exceptional, marked by skillful preparation and thoughtful pairings that made for a memorable meal. Highly recommended!

This was such a great experience. I've visited Roma close to 40 times over the past 16 years, and I regret that I haven't visited Mare Nostrum sooner. The service was perfect. Our host was attentive but calm. He was friendly and very comfortable, and made us feel very welcome. And the food.. The amuse bouche we were given (orange infused mayonnaise with caviar & roasted almonds) set the tone for great things to come. The starters of bacalá con panelle & prawns with lardo were such a treat. The trofie with swordfish and the octopus was cooked to perfection; it literally melted in my mouth, and the flavour combinations just work perfectly. Vino; extra plus for having a Peccorino on the menu, which pairs great with the sea food. Will without a doubt return when I have the chance.

I am very happy that I discovered this restaurant. I love fish and I was able to eat some wonderful fish dishes here today. I will definitely come back and recommend it to everyone for whom fish is a delicacy.

We always happily come back to eat at MARE NOSTRUM, the last time I had the tonnarelli prawns, goat cheese and orange......an explosion of flavors and enjoyment. Marco is the TOP

This restaurant was my local for over three years. I had some really excellent meals here with my family and friends when they visited. I recently had an amazing last meal with my mom when she visited for 3 weeks. The food is really good and great that you can get a discount for booking at an earlier time. I highly recommend this place and will miss it when I leave Rome.

Brilliant dinner in Rome! Decided to try here after looking at several options for my birthday and was not disappointed. Incredible food, super fresh fish, great wine at incredibly reasonable price, super service and relaxed atmosphere. Hidden gem in Rome - don’t miss the sharing platter starter order primi and secondi as it’s all so good!
