This place is hot. Enjoy the best meat flourishing with Asian cuisine. Street food, do not expect an elegant dine in.

The place of the heart. The best place in Milan where everything is perfect. This is what I wrote last time and I continue to think that these words are not enough to explain this corner that is a gift to the world. This is the place where I always think of returning. A place that even just for the cuisine of the wonderful Paola deserves to be at the top of the renowned guides and rankings of international catering... the meaning of the 3 stars for example is, in their definition, a place that is worth organizing a trip for... well Macelleria Popolare is and this is said by someone who has been to these wonderful places more than a few times that I will not mention and that are worth the trip. And they are worth it, there is no doubt, but this place is worth just as much. Wake up Michelin & co. .. in Asia give stars to street food places that are worth half... why not here? Here even the "scarpetta" is reinvented and has a touch of new, of magic while still remaining the essence of what it is. But apart from all this, Macelleria Popolare is a place where the word "experience" that is so fashionable becomes reality. A place where you meet people, tell stories, live life, you like some, others less, but this is real life. A place where that wonderful person that is Giuseppe Zen guides you magistrates without guiding you, rather, he walks with you because he stands by your side, shares, tells, listens and drinks with you a glass that has a story in that glass you find and becomes a guest, a friend, he is no longer just a maitre. A place where you could stay all day, there "a la barra" like in the Spanish markets forgetting the time, which in itself is a gift. The place to always return to. This is the best effing meal I’ve had in Milan and in years. Beats many Michelins I’ve been to, and I live in New York, and ate through various notable metropolitan cities and travelled quite a bunch. The chef is personable and charming, and I’m so humbly honored to be able to taste his creations. He was so genuine in his recommendations. Even the only beer on the menu is amazing (Italian Saison, really unique). They offer great cuts of beef and lamb, including dry aged, but I attacked the unique ones like veal brain (fried Milanese style), head cheese (amazing horseradish garnish that cuts the gelatinous grain), intestines in pomodoro sauce, grilled sweetbreads, and a simple lamb chop. Surprisingly, the lamb was a tad over done since I’m a medium rare person but I assume that’s just how they eat it here. The ordinary stuff pales in comparison to the unique items. My favorite are the intestines, that just broke away in Al dente strands against the umami rich tomato sauce and balance of pecorino. I assume they are San marzanos. The next best is the head cheese, which is in a rich gooey sauce that sticks to the teeth a little like toffee with intense rich demi glacé / ligament like flavors. I’m going to try the tiramisu next because wife, she’s not too into the off cuts - just means more for me. Also got the kidneys as well, loved it. I’m still tearing from gastronomical pleasure. It’s a journey of flavor and surprise. Watching baby ducks on the canal is a big plus. I rarely post any reviews, but this is an intense call to action, please keep this shop alive till the end of time. I’ll bring my yet to be born kids here one day.

Dibattuto, contestato e infine amato. Questo è "Il posto", l'aria di casa, di gente, di quartiere. Un bancone da macelleria, tanti chefs e una parlantina unica. Che sia un pezzo particolare (dalla testina in cassetta alle bombette, dalla svizzera di pecora agli arrosticini) o un taglio quotidiano, il gusto del buon prodotto coinvolge e commuove. Si, forse i prezzi sono un po' alti, forse l'aria del mercato comunale è contaminata dall'atmosfera di un ristorante propositivo, ma tutto è incastrato nel giusto verso. Due lunghi tavoli condivisi con una grondaia seminata al centro, l'aria della chiusa, il brusio della Darsena. C'è della poesia, studiata a tavolino, ma ben riuscita. Non ci sono mezze misure: odi et amo.

It's one of those places I'd always like to return to. Unique food, incredible service, and top-notch product quality. These are the places that deserve everyone to visit and are the places that deserve to do very well. Order the Svizzera Panini and the Tiramisu.
