I stopped at Baccus L’Osteria after a morning of sightseeing and it turned out to be a charming little place with a few quirks worth knowing about.
First off, the owner is genuinely delightful—he greets everyone like an old friend and checks in throughout the meal to make sure you’re happy. Cell-phone reception, however, is pretty much nonexistent inside (my carrier showed zero bars), so don’t count on mobile data. Luckily the restaurant’s Wi-Fi is fast and free, so you can still post that plate shot to Instagram.
Food-wise, everything I tried was spot-on flavor-wise. The catch? Portions lean on the small side while prices sit firmly in the “treat yourself” bracket. I left satisfied but could have handled another forkful or two, especially at €22 for a main.
Practical notes: they take all major credit cards (no awkward cash scramble), and small dogs are welcomed with a bowl of water and a scratch behind the ears. Because the dining room fills up fast—especially on summer weekends—booking ahead is a smart move.
Bottom line: come for the warm hospitality and beautifully executed dishes, just be prepared to pay premium prices for modest portions. A little more food on the plate would turn a good experience into a great one.

The best osteria in the area. The host's advice is crucial for choosing and pairing food with wine. It's expensive, but you'll leave satisfied.

Typical and authentic Tuscan food, the pecorino ubriaco was the winner.
The host is nothing short of amazing.

It's my first time in Pienza, Tuscany. The landscape here is enchanting, and the pace of life is so relaxed, so pleasant that you immediately feel at home. Strolling through the streets of the village, I stumbled upon this uniquely charming restaurant: the warm and elegant decor immediately captivated me.
I tried pasta with ragù, with truffle instead of the traditional tomato sauce—a surprising and delicious alternative—and the famous Florentine steak, cooked to perfection and incredibly tender. I can confidently say that, out of the three times I've been to Italy, this was the best pasta and Florentine steak I've ever had!
The owner was friendly and welcoming, and even offered us a glass of Spinello to round off the meal.
If I have the opportunity to return to Pienza, or if a friend asks me for advice on where to eat, I'll have no doubt: this restaurant will be my first recommendation!

The best fresh pasta I've ever had here, just cheese and no added milk in the white sauce. Simply divine. Congratulations to the restaurant, and I'll miss it.

We had a lunch of superlative pappa al pomodoro and a memorable Fiorentina (made with Tuscan meat, not imported from abroad) with an excellent house red. The host is friendly and courteous, who puts his heart and soul into it and who, he says, doesn't look at these reviews. The digestive "Spinello" is unmissable.
