Hi, I'll start by saying that I intend to return because I basically liked it and would like to know if it's just an isolated incident. We had a fried meatball appetizer and, on the recommendation of the waiter—who I might add was very good—long potato croquettes they call panzerotti, which were very good. A portion of fried potatoes could have been cooked a little more, but they were good. The Negramaro rosé wine in a carafe was very good, but I'm usually wary of bulk wines. The sore point is the meat. We had two steaks, one chicken and one beef. When ordering, we joked with the waiter, saying, "Well done!"—obviously, that shouldn't even be said about the chicken steak. The result was a chicken steak with some raw pieces. The beef steak was well done, but it wasn't beef steak, but beef strips with arugula and parmesan. The meat was also a bit calloused, so not suitable for a steak. We didn't say anything; we didn't want to argue. The prices are good, average. I repeat, I want to go back to eat those panzerotti again and try the meat again. The service was perfect and very fast, too; I honestly wasn't expecting that given how many people there were. It's a nice place, maybe a little noisy, but that's okay; it's not huge. I'll be back.

We've been there several times for both lunch and dinner.
What can I say? Everything was excellent. The staff was very friendly, kind, and professional.

We were surprised by this local restaurant. The food was excellent, authentic Italian. The TV was on, and there were businesspeople there who knew exactly where to have their lunch. Outside, there was no one on the street, but inside, it was a lively crowd of customers. We only got way more than we (thought) we'd ordered. Perhaps it was the language barrier? They deserve it, but perhaps another Dutch guest should keep a close eye on it.

We went for lunch on Sunday to celebrate Dad's 93rd birthday, and as luck would have it, there was a folk group there, which made Dad very happy. He had fun singing and dancing 😅 and made this milestone a real joy for him, also satisfying us with his euphoria.
We had lunch with a menu planned together with Maurizio, who was very present throughout the meal even though the place was full. However, everything was very good and so plentiful, as always, that we couldn't finish the dishes 😅.
I've been a customer for a couple of years and always love coming back.

The staff is young, polite, and well-trained. The food is excellent; among other dishes, I enjoyed a sublime spaghetti with sea urchins. The wine list is good.

Every time I go to Martano, I change restaurants to try them all. This year, L'Osteria left a lasting impression on me!! The host's mixed antipasto, the fresh tagliolini with clams and mussels, and finally the lemon sorbet were delicious! Absolutely worth a try. You eat like a king!

After a long time, I've been thinking about it, and I'm finally giving my overall opinion, my review, of this place.
Let's start with the assumption that, as described, it's an Osteria, and therefore should be compared to other establishments in its category.
Both in the distant past and more recently, I've frequented it hundreds of times, from simply enjoying a simple but excellent pizza to convivial gatherings with family, friends, and dignitaries.
It has never betrayed my trust. Never.
At the Osteria of Maurizio and Letizia Protopapa, people I respect for their professionalism and great availability, it feels like being at home, in the best sense of the word, with the added bonus of good, typical local cuisine that's always fresh and plentiful, regardless of whether you're a regular or a passing tourist. They make no distinction, and I've always noticed this over time.
Let's start by judging their "simple" mixed fried food and long potato panzerotti as a centerpiece. It seems simple, but there's art to it. To move on, even though we rarely order them, to the mixed seafood appetizers.
For my tastes, the highlight is the sagne ncannulate (a sort of fresh pasta fettuccine rolled and closed at the ends), especially served with tomato sauce and horse meat strips, and then topped with a variety of seasonal accompaniments, such as today's fresh porcini mushrooms. The main courses are varied and always plentiful, from various types of roasted meat, pieces of horse meat in tomato sauce, quality cheeses and cured meats, fried fish, and more.
They offer a wide selection of wines, both mid-range and high-end. The selection of beers is equally extensive, and finally, there's a wide selection of spirits to choose from.
The price is very fair for the quality and quantity of food.
My heartfelt compliments to Maurizio and Letizia, as well as to the kitchen staff, Salvatore and Antonio.
