An intense experience sampling the chef's dishes, all refined and delicious. Worthy of note are the saffron and Taleggio tavioli, and the veal creamed with Montepulciano. Recommended.

Set amongst the postcard perfect backdrop of Monte Velino, this is without doubt a textbook hidden gem quaint town restaurant. If the drive to Rosciolo dei Marsi isn’t spectacular enough, it is matched with an equally spectacular dining experience at Locanda dell’Arco. The cuisine is a far cry from the usual suspects found in most abruzzese restaurants… this is next level. The restaurant is run by a young husband and wife team, with the husband heading the kitchen. The Chef has brought his Piemontese culinary roots into the heart of Abruzzo, with a menu that respects both tradition but also with a flair of innovation. The menu is small and hand written, ensuring it’s align with what’s seasonal and available at its best. The wine is in a league of its own, expect small batch barolo, barbera d’asti and barbaresco, amongst many others, all hand picked by the passionate couple. The chef’s wife, who leads the service, highly recommended the carpaccio di manzo with mandarin and basil sorbet. Let’s just say, I drove 2 hours to arrive at this restaurant and would travel 2 hours again just for this dish. Refreshing, clean and refined, without being pretentious, it set the pace for what was to be a memorable meal. As a Piemontese should be, the chef is famed for his risotto, today it was zafferanno with liquorice, his signature dish I apparently. No this is not something i would ever order without a recommendation, so I’m lucky I asked. This was without doubt the best risotto I’ver ever had, it wasn’t to be expected in a small remote town in the middle of Abruzzo, but this was just spectacular. To finish, another Piemontese classic, bonet. A chocolate and amaretto dessert that was probably the best spoon of food I’ve had in a very long time in an Italian restaurant. Luckily we ordered two of the same as it would be criminal to share. The desserts are truly outstanding and if I was a guts, I’d probably would have ordered two! The experience at Locanda was unexpectedly exceptional. The staff, the meal, the location, this is a restaurant that begs to be revisited and well worth a day dream even from Rome! Thank you Locanda dell’Arco for a memorable experience.

A very nice inn located in a truly beautiful village. Reading all the positive 5-star reviews, I have to admit that perhaps we were a bit unlucky, perhaps we just chose the wrong time or day. After a pleasant welcome, we were met with a menu that was truly lacking in choice: three first courses, one of which was a single portion, an antipasti board with only cheeses (because there are no good cured meats in the area), and perhaps not even any vegetables suitable for grilling or other alternatives. The second courses were practically nonexistent, and when we asked for something vegetarian, we were rudely told that that was the menu and that there was nothing else, instead offering us a truly disappointing zucchini strudel. Anyway, we ate: very good cheeses, (for those who could) tagliatelle with wild boar ragù, and as an alternative (unfortunately) a single portion of gnocchi, which were good in the setting but very small portions. I'd say the desserts were excellent, quite respectable (well done). A good house wine, Tuscan, I believe. The only downside was the bill; I'd say it was a bit high, considering the scale. I'd love to return one day to be proven wrong, and to find a slightly more extensive menu, perhaps with a few euros more to spend. Lastly, I'd like to commend you for your perseverance in keeping these villages alive with your activities. Thank you.

In the small village of Rosciolo, this small restaurant offers carefully crafted cuisine for all tastes. Abruzzo and Piedmont meet in the chef's dishes, and the extensive, carefully selected wine list offers a satisfying and relaxing experience. The service is expert and attentive, with thorough, yet concise, explanations of the dishes and wines, and the atmosphere is a welcoming blend of past and present. I recommend it for both an evening with friends and a romantic dinner.

Ristorante La Porta

18/11/2025: A small but cozy place. Perhaps the tables are a little close together, but overall it's a pleasant place. The dishes are good and typical of Abruzzo, but for my tastes, after fifteen years of traveling around Abruzzo, they didn't particularly impress me. The entrees are average, and the first courses are limited. The appetizer of cured meats and cheeses with toasted bread drizzled with good olive oil is excellent. Prices are average. The quality and flavors are good. Friendly staff.
02/11/2025: After a walk along the Sentiero del Cuore, we stopped here for lunch: everything was delicious! Fresh ingredients, carefully prepared, and flavorful dishes. A truly delightful place, highly recommended!
